Giorgio Chiellini Reveals What Pirlo And Nesta Told Him About MLS

Former Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini is keen to bring his wealth of experience to LAFC as the Major League Soccer club look to take the league’s top prize for the first time.

Although the Los Angeles based club won the Supporters’ Shield in 2019, they’ve yet to to win MLS Cup since entering the league in 2018.

Chiellini is hoping he can help change that, and even spoke with Andrea Pirlo and Alessandro Nesta, two MLS veterans, in order to best prepare for the move.

Chiellini said:

“I have spoken to Andrea and Alessandro Nesta and they always speak very highly of this league.”

“For sure there are some differences. It’s a different soccer than the Italian [league], but each team has its own style.

“This team is perfect for me because it is full of young players and they can also help me.

It’s impossible for me to have the same physical characteristics I had 10 years ago, but I can bring something to them.

“We have to create a good mix of experience and enthusiasm to become a winning group.”

Since announcing Chiellini’s acquisition, LAFC have also signed Wales captain Gareth Bale on a 12-month contract with an option to extend the deal until 2024.

They’ve also signed Carlos Vela to an extension.

LAFC currently sit atop the MLS standings with 36 points from 17 matches.
