Graham Potter has been linked with Manchester United and England and the former Chelsea manager has responded to the rumours.
Potter has been a free agent since Chelsea sacked him 18 months ago, but is still being considered as a replacement for Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag. The Dutchman’s career at Old Trafford is in jeopardy after Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham, another poor performance from the Red Devils. Amidst all the rumors linked to United, the former Chelsea manager has spoken with Brighton.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Football, Potter said: “I’m the only manager in world football to have been linked with Stoke City and Napoli in the same week. I’m not saying that. readers with a pinch of salt, I have told many.
Out of respect for everyone, I have to hide it. In my opinion, nothing is impossible, but things are difficult. This is the real life of the Premier League. If you’re a big club like Manchester United and you’re not in the top six, keep looking.
“Sometimes you have to look past the results and look at the performance. They have lost a lot of opportunities and sometimes teams go to a place where you don’t start to show your xG [expected goals], and “A bad day will come . [Like Sunday] and how fast the clouds come in – that’s what they do.”
Following Gareth Southgate’s departure after Euro 2024, Potter has been linked with the possibility of taking over the England squad. Although Lee Carsley currently holds the position on a temporary basis, the FA has yet to decide who will replace Southgate. Regarding England’s post links, Potter said: “Obviously, an Englishman does a great job, but whatever the FA decides and whoever the manager is, I’ll support it.
“I think Gareth [Southgate] has done a fantastic job and I know Lee [Carsley] – whoever he is – will be great.”
Asked if he would rather have a club career than manage an international team in the future, he said: “To be honest, I’m open to anything.”
I have had an amazing journey in the last 12 years from the fourth level of Swedish football to the last eight in the Champions League and I want to spend the next 12 years in the position one, developing and working with players, teams. People and work differently
“Anyway, I’m open to anything.”
