January Signings Can Drive Manchester United On Title Quest.

The January transfer window is open in Europe but, while there is much speculation about new signings, this is a time when the major clubs are traditionally quiet. In England, the manager of Premier League champions Liverpool – Jurgen Klopp – has already stated that he doesn’t expect to do much business this month.

That isn’t, however, the case at title rivals Manchester United. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already swooped to acquire the services of Amad Diallo from Atalanta and, according to press reports, there could be more new faces in the pipeline.

Where does Diallo Slot in?

Amad Diallo’s potential involvement has been played down in some areas of the press and that could largely be attributed to his age. The Ivorian is just 18 but United are unlikely to have paid a 25 Million Euro fee to keep a player in the reserves. He’s identified as a winger but according to Red Devils’ boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Diallo is comfortable in a number of positions.

Solskjaer also admitted that the new signing is likely to start off in the Under 23s but he clearly has huge potential and few observers would be surprised to see Amad Diallo involved with the first team squad before the end of the season.

United’s Title Chances Rated

For much of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign as Manchester United’s manager, pundits and a certain section of the club’s supporters have been calling for their former striker to be replaced. A low point for the Red Devils came earlier in the 2020/21 season when United went down 6-1 at home to Tottenham Hotspur – a result that led to those calls for Solskjaer’s dismissal getting even louder.

Fast forward to the start of a New Year and things couldn’t be any more different. A run of positive results sees United in second, level on points with Liverpool and with a game in hand. The bookmakers are usually very good judges of where things stand and, according to those sportsbooks affiliated with sbo.net, United are currently third favourites to win the Premier League this season.

Local rivals Manchester City are the clear favourites with Liverpool in second place. That may be surprising considering that City have struggled for form but Pep Guardiola still has the strongest squad at his disposal. Readers can continue to obtain betting updates and predictions from sbo.net to see who will deliver at the end of the campaign.

Who’s Next?

To boost Manchester United’s push for the title, Amad Diallo is already on board but he’s not expected to be the only new signing at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have been linked with the Inter Milan midfielder, Christian Eriksen who only joined the Italian club a year ago.

Eriksen has struggled in Serie A but, if he can replicate the form shown for much of his stay at Tottenham Hotspur, that creativity may just be the catalyst for Manchester United’s title push.

Additional reports link United with a host of talented players from around Europe. RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano has been linked with a switch to the Premier League for some time but clubs have yet to make a serious move for the French international defender. The centre of defence is one area where Manchester United come under scrutiny so could this be the time for Solskjaer to take action?

Elsewhere, the 19 year old Ecuadorian international midfielder, Moises Caicedo is also being linked with a move to Manchester United in January. If any attempt to sign Caicedo falls through, the Red Devils may switch their attention to Lille’s French Under 21 international Boubakary Soumare. United certainly have their options and few would be surprised if the club didn’t make another signing in January as they look to challenge for the title once more.
