Bayern Munich under Vincent Kompany who did not beat Leverkusen last season will face a difficult task in welcoming Xabi Alonso’s side to the Munich football stadium.
Victor Boniface led the forward line for the Bundesliga champions while Nathan Tella dropped to the bench as Alonso favored Jeremy Frimpong.
Leverkusen broke the deadlock in the 31st minute. Alejandro Grimaldo’s corner kick from the right missed everyone in Bayern’s penalty area, leaving the ball to Granit Xhaka, who headed in ball into the path of Robert Andric. The German defender wasted no time in firing the ball to the right of Manuel Neuer’s goal.
Eight minutes later, Aleksandar Pavlovic, 20-year-old Bayern Munich youth, prepared for the home side with a better strike. A loose ball from the Bayern attack favored the young midfielder, who volleyed the ball home from 30 meters at a speed of 101.78km/h.
Bayern Munich came out guns blazing in the second half, but Leverkusen remained calm in defense and limited the home side to just three shots on target all game.
Natana Tella replaced Boniface in the 78th minute and had a chance to put Leverkusen in front, but the former Southampton man’s effort was simple and easily saved by Neuer.
Bayern Munich are on top of the Bundesliga table with 13 points from the first five matches, while Leverkusen are third with three points less.
