Chelsea XI vs Dortmund: Team News Possible Lineup

Chelsea will host Borussia Dortmund in a return leg of Champions League at Stanford Bridge this night as Potter’s side hope to overturned the first leg loose.

Chelsea suffered four successive Champions League last-16 exits between 2014-15 and 2019-20 before going all the way in the 2020-21 campaign,

but from their last seven Champions League knockout ties in which they have lost the first leg away from home, they have advanced from four of them.

The blues doctors are still working overtime on a number of players, with N’Golo Kante, Armando Broja, Edouard Mendy, Cesar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva all expected to miss out, but Christian Pulisic will be in the squad and Reece James could yet be passed fit.

The England defender has boosted the group after returning to training following his withdrawal from the 1-0 win over Leeds through a tight hamstring.

Meanwhile, Mason Mount is both injured and suspended for the second leg.

Benoit Badiashile, who excelled in the win on Saturday, will need to be replaced after not being selected for the UEFA squad list in early February.

Potter will likely pick a similar team to the one that ended a six-match winless run on Saturday.

That would leave Mykhailo Mudryk on the bench in favour of Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz and Joao Felix.

Mateo Kovacic and Enzo Fernandez will likely continue in midfield while Ben Chilwell and Loftus-Cheek play at wing back.

Potter also confirmed the match “comes too soon” for N’Golo Kante despite being back in full training.

Chelsea Possible Lineup:

Kepa;

Chalobah, Koulibaly, W. Fofana;

James, Enzo, Kovacic, Chilwell;

Sterling, Havertz, Felix.

Erling Haaland came back to haunt his former club as Manchester City staged a late comeback to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in Champions League Group G.

The Norwegian volleyed home Joao Cancelo’s sublime cross six minutes from time after John Stones had levelled matters just four minutes earlier.

Ahead of kick off, the stadium paid tribute to the late Queen and that would prove to be the highlight of the first half.

Anthony Modeste’s tame effort was the only shot on target as the visitors nullified City’s famed attack with a well-executed game-plan.

Dortmund grew in confidence following the restart and stole in front on 56 minutes when Jude Bellingham flicked home Marco Reus’ volley.

City finally upped the ante in the latter stages with Haaland going close with a low shot from a tight angle that clipped the outside of the post.

Dortmund looked set for an unlikely victory until Stones and Haaland’s late, late show.

The result means City top of Group G with six points from two outings.

Dortmund are second on three points with Copenhagen and Sevilla on a point apiece following their draw in Denmark.

Manchester City XI Vs Dortmund: Team News, Latest Injury, Possible Lineup

Manchester City could welcome back John Stones to their line-up for today’s Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund.

The England international missed the win over Sevilla last time out but is available once more to ease a defensive injury crisis.

Indeed, City were forced into an uncharacteristically late move during the final stages of the summer transfer window, bringing in Manuel Akanji – who could make his debut – to cover for Aymeric Laporte’s injury.

• Wednesday’s Transfer Gossip: Mbappe, Valverde, Jorginho, Raphinha, Messi, Bellingham, Kante, Saka

The Spanish international remains unlikely to play despite returning to training having undergone knee surgery before the start of the season and Kyle Walker is not fit to return after limping off against Aston Villa earlier this month.

Elsewhere, Guardiola has a number of options in attack.

All eyes will be on Erling Haaland against his former side of course but Julian Alvarez offers an interesting alternative, while there could be a run-out for the likes of Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips given the tight turnaround in games.

Predicted Man City XI (4-3-3):

Ederson;

Cancelo, Ajanki, Dias, Gomez;

Rodri, Gundogan, De Bruyne;

Mahrez, Haaland, Grealish.

Erling Haaland Released From Dortmund To 'Take Care Of Personal Matters'

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed Erling Haaland has been granted permission to ‘take care of personal matters’, following the revelation that he has agreed a move to Manchester City.

The Norway international has agreed personal terms with City, who have fought off

competition from Real Madrid and pretty much every top side in Europe to secure the signature of the 21-year-old striker.

Shortly after news of the move emerged, Dortmund confirmed to Sport1 that they had given Haaland permission to leave the training complex to address something.

“The players have no training today and we allowed Erling to take care of personal matters,” a club statement read.

Haaland has not yet signed his City contract but the terms of an agreement have already been reached,

with the striker handed a base wage similar to that of Kevin De Bruyne with the bonuses needed to make him the club’s top earner when all is said and done.

Pep Guardiola has already spoken with the striker to discuss how he would fit into City’s side,

which has not featured a traditional number nine on a regular basis since the summer of 2020,

before Sergio Aguero’s injury struggles blighted his 2020/21 campaign.

It is understood that Haaland is happy with Guardiola’s vision for him and is now ready to put pen to paper and finally bring an end to this transfer saga.

Karim Adeyemi's Agent Confirms He Rejected Manchester United For Dortmund

The agent of RB Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi has confirmed he rejected an approach from Manchester United in favour of joining Borussia Dortmund.

Adeyemi set on a move to Germany, with an agreement over personal terms with Dortmund reached in January, and the two sides have been wrestling to find an agreement over a fee ever since.

Talks stalled at one point but Dortmund soon got them back on track and have now struck a deal to bring Adeyemi in as a replacement for

Erling Haaland, who has agreed his own transfer to Manchester City this summer.

Now, Adeyemi’s agent, Thomas Solomon, has confirmed to Fabrizio Romano that a deal with

Dortmund is close to completion, revealing that he knocked back United in the process.

“We’re now close to complete the deal with Borussia Dortmund,” he said. “There will be no release clause included into his five-year deal.

Manchester United wanted to enter the race – but we want BVB.”

United are looking to sign at least two new forwards this summer and had been tipped to

move for Adeyemi because of Ralf Rangnick’s links to the Red Bull system – he is a former director of football for both Salzburg and

RB Leipzig and has managed the latter twice, while also enjoying a spell as Red Bull’s head of sport and development.

Rangnick, who will transition into a consultancy role at Old Trafford in the summer,

recently argued that United need ‘six to eight new signings’ this summer to be competitive once again.

Adeyemi will not be one of those new faces as the 20-year-old Germany international will soon finalise a long-awaited switch to Dortmund instead.

Man City Are ‘Ready To Pay’ Haaland Release Clause In Big Blow To Ralf Rangnick Plans.

Man City are reportedly preparing to hand Ralf Rangnick and Man Utd a major blow by signing one of their top striker targets – Erling Haaland.

Manchester City have been without a true number nine ever since Sergio Aguero’s departure.

Gabriel Jesus was seen as his replacement, but the Brazilian now wants to play out wide.

Manager Pep Guardiola has been using a false nine to great effect so far this campaign.

Phil Foden is his primary choice and the Englishman is already on 12 goal contributions in 18 games this term.

The tactic also seems to be getting the best out of Jack Grealish and Raheem Sterling, while midfielder Bernardo Silva is also flourishing.

However, Man City could probably do with a new striker if they want to end their Champions League disappointment.

Rivals Man Utd, meanwhile, could do with signing Cristiano Ronaldo’s successor over the next couple of seasons.

Sport Witness, who cite Bild, provide a big update on the transfer hunt of one goalscoring machine.

They claim City are ‘ready to pay’ the release clause of Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.

It will activate next summer and is reportedly worth €75m (£63m).

Haaland already has links with the Citizens, as his father Alf-Inge played for them between 2000 and 2003.

The news means Rangnick and Man Utd will need to formalise a transfer strategy, and fast.

If they want to keep Haaland from the clutches of their rivals then they will need to match his release clause themselves.

Dortmund, however, have a plan to keep the Norwegian around.

They are set to engage in talks with Haaland and his representatives next month to discover what his plans are.

This could result in a new contract in Germany, and in turn a more worthy release clause of over £100m.
