Borussia Dortmund defeat Chelsea 1-0 in the Champions League last 16 first leg thanks to a stunning solo goal from Karim Adeyemi.

In the 37th minute, Joao Felix had Chelsea’s best chance when he crashed a shot off the crossbar.

Kai Havertz laid the ball off to the Portugal international on the break, but he was off balance and under heavy pressure from Marius Wolf when he got his shot away.

Chelsea looked re-energised in the opening stages of the second half and the visitors almost broke deadlock in the 55th minute.

Reece James’ swerving free-kick was parried over the bar by Gregor Kobel.

But it was Dortmund who went in front after a clinical counter-attack. From a Chelsea corner,

Adeyemi picked the ball up in his own half, outpaced Enzo Fernandez and rounded Kepa Arrizabalaga before slotting the ball into the empty net.

Chelsea almost found an equaliser in the 77th minute when Kalidou Koulibaly drove a shot on goal from close range,

but after it had squirmed away from Kobel, Emre Can slid in to clear off the line.

Borussia Dortmund Eye On Haller As Erling Haaland Replacement

Ajax have set a €40m price tag for Sebastian Haller, with Borussia Dortmund upping their interest in the star forward.

BVB aren’t the only team who hold an interest in the striker as Bayern Munich have also enquired about Haller’s availability this summer.

However, Dortmund are confident they will secure the Ivory Coast international as their replacement for Erling Haaland.

Haaland officially joined Manchester City in June, signing for £55m from Dortmund.

Having scored 86 goals in 88 games for BVB, it’s essential that the club bring in a few attackers in order to replace those goals.

They’ve already signed the highly-rated Karim Adeyemi from Red Bull Salzburg,

but it is clear that Dortmund are in need of an out-and-out target man to replace Haaland, and Haller certainly fits that bill.

Following a rather disastrous spell at West Ham United, Haller has re-found his form at Ajax

scoring 34 goals in all competitions last season – including 11 in just eight UEFA Champions League games.

Along with Haller and Adeyemi, report has it  that Chelsea are holding out hope of sending Timo Werner to BVB on loan this summer.

The German could be joining Lukaku as a high-profile forward leaving Stamford Bridge on loan this summer.

Lukaku has agreed terms to re-join Inter on-loan, with Chelsea agreeing to pay a percentage of the player’s wage packet to send him back to Serie A.

Aubameyang told Mundo Deportivo and Sport.

“It is something very special because we had an incredible year in Dortmund and he is an incredible player.”

“Ousmane is one of the best with the ball and, for a striker, he is incredible.

To tell the truth, I am very happy that he is here and when I arrived I told him: ‘You have to stay, man.'”

On whether Dembele would be staying, Aubameyang said:

“I don’t know, but the only thing I can say is that everything is possible in life.”

Asked what he thought of the possibility of current Dortmund talisman Erling Haaland joining Barcelona, Aubameyang was excited.

“I’m always prepared for healthy competition with teammates, so it would be an honour to play with him if he ends up joining Barcelona,” he said.

“I’m not a coach, but I think he’s a star, he scores a lot of goals, he has a very good physique and a lot of speed.

“It’s very strange, because he’s very big, but he runs a lot. It’s incredible.

“For his age, he’s already one of the best in the world.”

Borussia Dortmund Go Top Of The Bundesliga Table As Erling Haaland Strikes Twice In 3-1 Win Over Mainz

The hosts, who travel to Ajax Amsterdam for the Champions League next week, had shot out of the blocks and earned a dream start with Reus thumping in a deflected cutback in the third minute for a dream start.

Marco Reus said of Haaland:

“It is clear he had been missing in our team.”

“It is important that he plays because he constantly keeps two or three players occupied.”

“To score two goals on his comeback is top. That is why we signed him.”

It was Reus’ 14th goal in 20 games against Mainz, the most he has scored against any Bundesliga club.

In a tense first half, Dortmund had three-quarters of possession.

But, they had to wait almost the entire half for another chance in stoppage time.

When a Jude Bellingham effort was cleared off the line.

Haaland’s penalty gave Dortmund a measure of comfort in the second half.

And Mats Hummels hit the post with a glancing header but the visitors were not yet done.

Mainz struck with Jonathan Burkardt in the 87th from a mistake by Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel to set up a nervous finale.

Before Haaland settled it in extra time to make it 70 goals in 68 matches in all competitions for his club.

Securing them their ninth consecutive home league win.

Riise Urges Liverpool To Sign Borussia Dortmund Star Haaland

John Arne Riise wish Liverpool could able  to sign Erling Haaland. But, fears he would make Manchester City “close to unbeatable”, should Pep Guardiola’s side land the Dortmund striker.

The Dortmund star is attracting the interest of all of Europe’s top clubs.

Haaland, it is understood, has a release clause which would enable him to leave,

Dortmund for a fee between €75 million-€100m (£64m-$87m/£85m-$116m) next summer.

Whil Riise hopes the explosive forward moves to the Premier League.

Riise said:

“Obviously I would love to have him at Liverpool.

Because, he’s an unbelievable player.

“He’s in great form, and I think he would suit [Jurgen] Klopp’s style of football

. I also think he would love Liverpool as a club.

“But if City got him, wow! You talk about unbeatable teams, then that would be close!

“Whoever gets Haaland, whether it’s next season or whatever, is going to be an unbelievably strong team for many years to come.

“I don’t know if Liverpool have the chance to sign him, but if they do then please do.

Because that would be unbelievable for the club – or for any club that signs him!”

Haaland’s form over the past few years has been remarkable.

Since moving to Dortmund from Salzburg in January 2020.

He has scored 68 goals in just 67 appearances, establishing himself as one of the world’s most sought-after players.

Riise, who spent 10 years in the Premier League with Liverpool and Fulham.

Believes England is the logical next step for his countryman, despite reported interest from Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

He said:

“Norway has been lacking players in the Premier League in the last few years.

Ten or 15 years ago, we had so many players, now there are very few and not many have made a good impression.

“I’m glad that [Martin] Odegaard is at Arsenal and looking good.

Hopefully he will have a good season. But we need a few more players up there,

And challenging and really making a name for themselves, just so Norwegian football can get back to what it used to be, with players playing in top leagues.

“I hope Haaland comes to the Premier League.

I hope he comes to Liverpool, obviously, but for Norwegian football it is important to get a player like that in the Premier League.”

Dortmund Moved To Second With Victory Over Augsburg

Raphael Guerreiro scored a penalty and Julian Brandt added a second either side of half-time.

But Dortmund’s wait for a first league clean sheet continues after Andi Zeqiri’s first-half strike.

Dortmund took the lead in the 10th minute through Guerreiro’s spot-kick, after Donyell Malen was fouled in the area.

Augsburg pegged them back 10 minutes before the break when Zeqiri, on loan from Brighton,

reacted first to fire home the rebound after Arne Maier’s shot from distance crashed off the bar.

Six minutes after the break, the hosts went back in front after a superb counter-attack,

Involving Marius Wolf and Marco Reus was finished off with a deft shot from Brandt.

Reus and substitute Thorgan Hazard each hit the woodwork.

As Dortmund squandered chances to wrap the game up in the second half.

But they held on to move a point behind champions Bayern Munich.

Pep Guardiola Reveals How Liverpool Coach Jurgen Klopp Has Made Him A 'Better Manager'

The Spaniard, who took over at City in the summer of 2016, also faced Klopp, who became Reds boss in October 2015, when he was Bayern Munich manager and the German was in charge of Borussia Dortmund.

Guardiola has lost eight games in all competitions against Klopp.

Which is more than against any other opposing manager.

Manchester City are a point behind Premier League leaders Liverpool and the teams meet at Anfield on Sunday (16:30 BST).

Guardiola said:

“Since I arrived here – maybe not the first year – Liverpool were always there,”

Jurgen Klopp’s teams helped me to be a better manager,”

“He put me at another level, to think about it, to prove myself, to be a better manager.

That is the reason why I am still in this business.

“The last four years, all the time, we were both there.

It’s the biggest compliment that both clubs were there.

“But in the Premier League there are not just one or two, there are many teams who can fight for the league.”

Liverpool were beaten 4-1 at Anfield in the league in February when the two teams last met.

Klopp knows his side will have to be at their best against City.

He said:

This is a really special game every year.

You have to be your best version, and only then, you have a chance,”

“We have to play a proper football game to have a chance but it’s Anfield. We are really looking forward to it.

“They [City] are probably the best team in Europe at the moment.

Last weekend they played Chelsea and everyone was talking about how good they [Chelsea] are, which they are, but City were clearly better that day.

“We have to win the game and score goals.

But we have to defend at the absolute highest level to stay in the game.

And make sure the goals we score make the difference.”

CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke reveals to keep the prolific Norwegian star will be tough – but not impossible.

Dortmund are aware retaining the services of a prized asset is going to be tough.

He said.

“Of course it will be difficult. I am not saying, however, that it is completely out of the question.

We’ll do everything we can to keep our top players loyal to us in the future.”

Haaland was with a brace  in his latest outing for Dortmund,  in the 4-2 victory over Union Berlin.

He now has 68 efforts to his name in just 67 appearances for the club.

Watzke believes that they can strike gold again if forced back into the market,

for another goal-getter, saying:

“We have to have the self-confidence to say we’ll find a new top striker again.”
