Officially: Arsenal Confirm Fabio Vieira Signing From FC Porto

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Fabio Vieira from FC Porto on a long-term contract.

Vieira enjoyed a breakout 2021/22 season, registering six goals and 14 assists in only 15 starts, and the Gunners have moved quickly to secure a deal.

Arsenal technical director Edu said:

“We’re so pleased to have completed the signing of Fabio from FC Porto.

Fabio is a player with special qualities who is comfortable with the ball in the final third of the pitch.

“We are all looking forward to working with him and enjoying his future contribution to Arsenal.

We will now continue to work hard and are looking forward to finishing this transfer window as strongly possible.”

Head coach Mikel Arteta added:

”I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent.

Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play.

We welcome Fabio and his family to our club and are looking forward to starting work with him ahead of the new season.”

FC Porto confirmed on Friday morning that they agreed an initial €35m fee with Arsenal, with that sum potentially rising to €40m with add-ons.

Fabio had an active €50m release clause but the Gunners were able to get a deal done for less than that.

Arsenal have not disclosed the length of his contract, although they have called it ‘long-term’.

Vieira is primarily an attacking midfielder, but he has the ability to operate out wide too.

Arsenal are hoping to make several more signings this summer with Gabriel Jesus and Youri Tielemans among their top targets.

Arsenal Agree Deal For Porto Midfielder Fabio Vieira

Arsenal have struck a deal with Porto to sign attacking midfielder Fabio Vieira.

The 22-year-old has just enjoyed a breakout year at club level, racking up six goals and 14 assists in 27 appearances – statistics which are already impressive before you consider that he managed that in just 15 starts.

A number of sides had taken a liking to Vieira but sources close to both clubs have now confirmed that it is Arsenal who are set to win the race for his signature.

Vieira comes with a €50m release clause but Arsenal have negotiated down to an upfront fee of €35m (£30m), with a further €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons.

A medical has now been set for the coming hours, with Vieira expected in England imminently.

Vieira finished second in the Liga Portugal assist charts last year but also flashed a real eye for goal at Under-21 level for his country,

netting seven times in just eight games during the 2021/22 campaign.

An attacking midfielder by trade, Vieira has filled in on both wings for Portugal but played the vast majority of his minutes in a central role,

similar to that in which Martin Odegaard shone for Arsenal last season.

Manager Mikel Arteta is keen to give his side more options in attack.

The Gunners are also readying an approach to Sassuolo over young striker Gianluca Scamacca.

Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus is also high on Arteta’s wish list, while Inter’s Lautaro Martinez and Everton’s Richarlison have both been scouted.
