Chelsea beat Leeds United 1-0 thanks to a Wesley Fofana header that put an end to their winless run.

Joao Felix had Chelsea’s biggest chance of the first half after 22 minutes, the ball was cut back to the Portugal international and he smacked a first-time effort from outside the box which crashed off the crossbar.

It took Chelsea just eight minutes of the second half to find the back of the net, Ben Chilwell put in a high corner and Wesley Fofana rose highest to thunder his header past Illan Meslier.

Fofana had a similar chance in the first half which went over the bar but he made no mistake with this attempt.

Leeds pushed forward in search of an equaliser, committing bodies forward and getting into good areas.

Javi Gracia‘s side though struggled to find the right final ball, often deliberating in the final third and generally lacking conviction.

Chelsea held on to record their first Premier League win since January and it’s a result which slightly relieves the pressure on manager Graham Potter.

Manchester United will be without Antony, Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen when face Leeds United today.

Marcel Sabitzer is in line to make a quickfire first start for the club with the midfield particularly light on numbers.

The Bayern Munich loanee is the natural choice to partner Fred in Erik ten Hag’s midfield with Casemiro banned for three games after a red card for grabbing Will Hughes around the throat on the weekend.

Sabitzer made his debut off the bench late on in the win over Crystal Palace and should now start in the rearranged game against Leeds.

“It Was Planned I Did Not Feel Like Celebrating” Haaland Reveals His Admiration For Leeds United

Erling Haaland has had a flying start to life in England, scoring 20 goals with his brace against Leeds United.

The Norwegian made the move from Borussia Dortmund this year in one of the most highly-anticipated moves of the summer, and he has backed it up with a fine start.

Haaland has always had an admiration for Leeds United – he was born in the city when his father played for them.

Haaland reveals lack of Leeds celebration as he smashes new Premier League record.

Former Dortmund striker admitted that he didn’t celebrate his two goals against Leeds United because he has “respect” for the club after being born in the city.

It was Haaland who stole the show yet again with two excellent finishes to continue his impressive start to the campaign.

His first was a simple tap-in after Jack Grealish pinched the ball off Robin Koch, before running through on goal and squaring across to Haaland to stroke home.

Haaland chose to do a muted celebration for both goals after he was born in Leeds back in 2000.

Haaland told VG:

“It was planned. I did not feel like celebrating. I was born in Leeds and have respect for the club.

“I of course celebrated with Jack Grealish and said ‘Great work!’ because it was two fantastic assists.

Mum and dad were at the stadium. That is special.

When I was little I had a Leeds kit with Eirik Bakke on the back and a City kit with my dad’s name.”

Erling’s father, Alfie, played for the Whites when his son was born 22 years ago.

But he was just a matter of months old when Alfie chose to move to City, where the family connection now lies.

The 50-year-old was a cult hero at the club before breaking his leg following a horrendous challenge from Roy Keane.

Alfie was forced to retire from the top level after the incident despite playing some matches in the fourth tier of Norwegian football with Rosseland.

Despite being born in England, however, Erling chose to play for Norway at international level and he has since grabbed 21 goals in 23 matches for his nation.

Manchester City back to second on the table as Erling Haaland scored his 20th Premier League goal of the season a 3-1 victory over Leeds United.

Rodri’s goal on the stroke of half-time gave City the breakthrough and Haaland registered on the scoresheet twice in the second half.

Pascal Struijk grabbed a consolation for Leeds.

The early signs were ominous for Leeds as Haaland was slipped in with less than a minute on the clock but was repelled by Illan Meslier, who would go on to have a busy night.

Manchester City finally got their opener in first half added-time when Meslier parried Riyad Mahrez’s shot into the path of Rodri who was left with a simple tap-in.

Leeds were the creators of their own undoing at the start of the second half when Liam Cooper’s loose pass was intercepted by Grealish who

unselfishly rolled it to Haaland who slotted City’s second into an empty net.

Grealish registered his second assist of the night when he found Haaland at the near post with a neat cut-back and the former Dortmund striker tucked a first-time effort past Meslier.

Haaland spurned an excellent chance for a hat-trick, and, at the opposite end, Joe Gelhardt almost set up a grandstand finish with a shot that went just wide.

Arsenal secured a hard-fought three points at Leeds United with Bukayo Saka’s goal earning a 1-0 victory on Sunday.

Arsenal were looking to extend their lead at the top of the league while Leeds manager Jesse Marsch knew that a win could take his team to mid-table and take some of the pressure off.

Both sides had to contend with a delay almost immediately after the kick-off, with a power cut forcing a gap of more than 30 minutes before the restart.

Just after half an hour had eventually been played, Saka rifled into the top of the net from an Arsenal counter, but Leeds also had chances.

In the second half, Patrick Bamford thought he had equalised seconds after coming on, but his effort was disallowed for handball.

William Saliba then handballed in the box on 62 minutes and a VAR review led to a penalty, but Bamford stepped up to send it wide.

Arsenal defender Gabriel saw red in injury time when shoved over by Bamford, as the Brazilian

lashed out with his feet against the striker in retaliation, but the referee overturned his own decision on a VAR review, and Mikel Arteta’s men held on for the win.

‘I’d Be Shocked If They Don’t Win This Weekend' Paul Merson Makes Shock Predictions Manchester United v Newcastle & Arsenal v Leeds

Former Arsenal legend Paul Merson comes up with a shock predictions over Man Utd clash Against Newcastle and Leeds vs  Arsenal.

Merson has no doubt as he expects Arsenal to continue their sensational form against Leeds United this weekend but has made a ‘shock’ prediction for Manchester United v Newcastle United.

Premier League leaders Arsenal travel to Elland Road on Sunday to face a Leeds side who are currently 14th, three points above the relegation zone.

Meanwhile Arsenal have won eight of their nine league games this season, while Leeds haven’t won in five matches and are sliding towards the drop zone.

Revealing his prediction for the Premier League clash, Merson told Sportskeeda:

Granit Xhaka has been absolutely outstanding this season.

He’s been played further forward, and he’s been reliable – all of them have been.

‘Arsenal haven’t carried one player this season, and every player has been playing well every week.

‘I don’t think Ben White will make it to the World Cup squad, because he’s been playing at right-back.

Tomiyasu was outstanding against Salah.

Arteta changed it around last week, and Tomiyasu marked him out of the game.

‘Arsenal are a team where everyone is playing to best of his ability.

For now, a top-four finish is the target, but if they know what they’re doing, who knows?

What’s the point of playing in the Premier League if you can’t dream?

‘You’ve got to give credit where it’s due – Arsenal have played very well this season.

Over the years, you just wouldn’t know if they’d win this match.

‘I’d be shocked if they don’t win this weekend, and I haven’t had that feeling in several years.

‘Leeds will jump out of the blocks at a hundred miles an hour, but Arsenal will eventually take over and rip them to shreds.

I’m going for a 3-0 win.’

Manchester United are also in action on Sunday as Erik ten Hag’s side welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are fifth having amassed 15 points from their eight league games, while Newcastle are one point behind in sixth.

Merson:

‘I like the way Newcastle are playing at the moment – they absolutely dismantled Fulham last week.

You’ve got to give them credit – they’ve got the players and have pace on the counter.

Erik ten Hag will have to play Cristiano Ronaldo now, won’t he? Ronaldo, in my opinion, is the best finisher in the world.

‘You don’t score 700 goals by not being able to finish.

You give him chances, and he scores goals. He makes the hardest things in the world look very easy.

‘I think Casemiro needs some time. There’s a lot yet to come from him.

This game is very different to the Everton fixture, and United will need to be at their best.

‘I’m not too sure about this game, and that’s a big compliment for Newcastle. I’m going to go for a shock this weekend.

‘Newcastle have the players in their team to hurt Manchester United.

They’ve got the game to beat United, but they’ll need to pick the right pass.

‘If they stick to Eddie Howe’s plan and execute it like they have been over the last couple of weeks,

I think they’ll win 2-1.

Leeds continued their unbeaten start to the season as they secured a famous win over Chelsea’s new-look team with a display which will cause Thomas Tuchel nightmares.

Chelsea, who spent over £170m on players over the summer, were the architects of their own downfall in the first half.

Edouard Mendy gifted Leeds the opener by miscontrolling a backpass, allowing Brendan Aaronsen to pounce.

Four minutes later Raheem Sterling gave away a free-kick on the edge of the box, from which Rodrigo scored his fourth of the season after Jack Harrison’s delivery

But Leeds also out-fought their opponents, particularly in midfield, in echoes of the famous historical battles between the two rivals.

And they sealed a first Premier League win over Chelsea in seven attempts, dating back to 2000, when Harrison scored after Daniel James‘ cross was touched to him by Rodrigo.

An already raucous   Road was in disbelief at that moment; the home fans taunted their Chelsea counterparts and manager Jesse Marsch punched the air in wild joy.

There were chances for Chelsea. Sterling curled wide in the first minute and had a goal disallowed, while Marc Cucurella, signed for £62m, was also off-target twice.

But when Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off six minutes from time for a second booking, it summed up Chelsea’s afternoon, allowing Leeds fans to wallow in the elation of a superb start to the season as their team moved into third in the table.

Barcelona Complete Signing Of Raphinha From Leeds United

Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Raphinha from Leeds United for an undisclosed fee.

The Catalan giants announced on Wednesday that they had agreed a deal in principle and, having passed his medical, Raphinha signed his Barcelona contract at an unveiling on Friday afternoon.

“It’s a dream come true since I was a kid and for my family as well,” Raphinha said of joining Barça.

“I’m going to give my best in order to help.”

In a parting statement on their club website, Leeds said:

“We would like to place on record our sincere gratitude to Raphinha for his effort and contribution whilst at the football club.

“He showed unquestionable commitment and professionalism until the very end of his time at Elland Road and his celebrations at the Brentford Community Stadium will live long in the memory.

“Everyone at Leeds United would like to wish Raphinha the very best for the future and hope he enjoys great success at the Nou Camp and throughout his career.”

According to report the deal is worth around €60m inclusive on add-ons, with Barcelona having seen off competition from Chelsea and Arsenal for the 25-year-old’s signature.

Manchester City Confirm Signing Of Leeds' Kalvin Phillips

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips in a £45m deal.

Phillips has signed a six-year contract at the Etihad Stadium to reinforce manager Pep Guardiola’s defensive midfield options following

the departure of Fernandinho, who has returned to Brazil on a free transfer. He will take the club’s vacant number four shirt.

City reached an agreement with Leeds in late June, and they have now officially confirmed the 26-year-old’s arrival after he passed a medical.

“I am absolutely delighted to have joined Manchester City,” Phillips told City’s club channels.

“City have again proved to the best team in the country with an amazing squad and a manager in who is rightly considered to be the finest in the world.

“To be able to play under Pep and learn from him and his coaching staff as well as be part of a such a fantastic squad is a prospect that I am incredibly excited about.

“City are a world-class Club with world-class staff and facilities and it’s a dream come true to have joined the Club.

“Now I can’t wait to get started and to look to try and help the team to go on and achieve more success.”

While a £60m fee had previously been touted, the structure of the deal will actually see Man City pay £45m overall, with £3m of that figure made up of bonus payments.

City did their due diligence on the midfielder’s character to ensure he would fit in with their current squad before pursuing a transfer.

A graduate from Leeds’ academy, Phillips departs Elland Road after making 234 appearances in all competitions.

The highlight of his career at the club was undoubtedly gaining promotion to the Premier League under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa,

with his form during that season helping him earn a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020.

Phillips’ 2021/22 campaign wasn’t quite as successful,

with injuries limiting him to just 20 Premier League appearances as Leeds narrowly swerved relegation.
