Chelsea made it to three win in a row as they beat Leicester City 3-1 to record their first Premier League away win since October.

Graham Potter‘s side took the lead after just 11 minutes thanks to a terrific volley from former fox Ben Chilwell.

Chelsea thought they had doubled their advantage in the 35th minute when Joao Felix finished off a brilliant team move, but it was ruled out for offside following a VAR check.

Just four minutes later, Leicester City had an equaliser. Felix had his pocket picked by Ricardo Pereira, who laid it off for Patson Daka to thunder home from distance to make it 1-1.

It didn’t take long for The Blues to go back ahead, though. Enzo Fernandez dinked a wonderful ball over the top for Kai Havertz, who was able to flick his effort over Danny Ward and into the back of the net.

Chelsea wrapped up all three points 10 minutes from time when Mateo Kovacic improvised brilliantly to volley home from close range.

Leicester were reduced to 10 men late in the game when Wout Faes received his second yellow card for a late tackle.

Gabriel Martinelli’s goal a minute into the second half was enough to give Premier League leaders Arsenal victory at Leicester City.

The Gunners appeared to have taken the lead midway through the first half when recent signing Leandro Trossard curled a fantastic effort inside the top corner,

but VAR showed Ben White was holding Danny Ward’s arm when he weakly punched away the initial corner.

Arsenal dominated possession throughout the first half but did not create a great deal and Mikel Arteta’s chastening words saw

them come out in the second half with a purpose and shortly after the restart Trossard played a ball through for Martinelli who slid a ball just inside Ward’s left-hand post.

The Gunners were a whisker away  going further in front just before the hour mark when Martinelli squared for Bukayo Saka to tap home,

but the Brazilian was just offside before he created the goal.

The win sees Arsenal stay in pole position ahead of Manchester City at the top of the table, while Leicester remain in 14th spot.

Two mistakes of the highest order from Faes within seven minutes of each other at the end of a frantic first half cost the Foxes their valuable lead.

Both sides threatened during the second half but lacked quality in front of goal, as Liverpool managed to see out the game and wrap up all three points.

Liverpool remain in sixth place, two points adrift of Tottenham Hotspur in fourth spot, whereas Leicester, in 13th, are in danger of dropping closer to the relegation zone over the weekend.

Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League after Kevin de Bruyne’s world-class free-kick broke down Leicester City’s stubborn resistance at the King Power Stadium.

Foxes’ manager Brendan Rodgers had clearly set up his team to do a containing job on the reigning champions and it had worked

effectively until De Bruyne curled a magnificent strike into the top corner from 25 yards four minutes after half-time.

De Bruyne’s goal was reward for City’s dominance, even though they missed the killer touch of the absent Erling Haaland, who has been suffering from a fever and a foot injury.

Leicester almost broke out of their defensive shell when Youri Tielemans struck a volley from a corner that was turned on to the bar by

Manchester City keeper Ederson but ultimately they did not have enough attacking intent or quality to test Pep Guardiola’s side.

Arsenal can return to the top of the table with victory against Nottingham Forest at Emirates

Stadium on Sunday but for now Manchester City are back in the position that has become such familiar territory in recent years.

Manchester United made it three wins in a row to help put their woeful start to the season behind them as they beat Leicester 1-0 at the King Power.

As in recent wins over Southampton and Liverpool, moments of real quality on the break from United were largely swamped by passive periods where they offered very little and were left hanging on to a narrow lead.

Jadon Sancho put the visitors in front in the first-half, capitalising on some dreadful Leicester defending as the Foxes put in a showing worthy of their position at the bottom of the Premier League table.

They improved after the break, without every really looking like scoring as the equaliser did not come, as United moved up to fifth ahead of a real test against table-toppers Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.

United threatened to double their lead before the break, Sancho having a shot blocked and Rashford regularly finding space in between Leicester’s defence and midfield. Even the boos from the home fans that met the half-time whistle lacked energy, summing up a lethargic showing from the hosts.

Ronaldo and Casemiro were introduced by Ten Hag, the United boss keen to bring some control and ruthlessness and to proceedings. Those changes had the desired impact, with Leicester’s momentum wrestled away.

The visitors had chances to double their advantage, Jonny Evans producing a brilliant piece of defending to prevent Christian Eriksen having a tap-in before Ronaldo’s acrobatic effort bounced just wide.

There was no need for a second goal for United though, as for the third match in a row they did just about enough to get the job done. Focus now turns to this weekend’s clash against Arsenal, a match that will reveal plenty about where both sides are.

Chelsea FC XI vs Leicester: Team News, Injury Latest, Possible Lineup

Chelsea will welcome Mateo Kovacic and Armando Broja back from injury ahead of Leicester’s visit to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Only N’Golo Kante is guaranteed to miss the trip through injury with the Frenchman out for “four-plus weeks”, according to Thomas Tuchel after he suffered a hamstring injury against Tottenham two weeks ago.

Kalidou Koulibaly is suspended after receiving a red card for two bookings against Leeds last week.

Manager Thomas Tuchel is expected to serve a touchline ban after his fracas with Antonio Conte in Chelsea’s last home game.

Chelsea face tactical decisions in midfield and defence after being well beaten away at Leeds, losing 3-0 at Elland Road last Sunday.

Conor Gallagher or Ruben Loftus-Cheek could drop to the bench if Kovacic is chosen to start, with a cameo role off the bench more likely.

A decision must also be made on whether to bring Ben Chilwell back into the fold after Koulibaly’s red card in Yorkshire or if Cesar Azpilicueta or Trevoh Chalobah will get the nod instead.

It could be the first time Marc Cucurella and Chilwell line up together, seeing Cucurella drop in at centre back and Chilwell play wing back.

Predicted Chelsea XI:

Mendy;

Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, Cucurella;

James, Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho, Chilwell;

Mount, Havertz, Sterling.

Brendan Rodgers Confirms Wesley Fofana Will Miss Chelsea Match

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Wesley Fofana will not take part in Leicester City’s match with Chelsea this weekend due to the Blues’ ongoing pursuit of the defender.

Chelsea have had multiple bids for Fofana knocked back by Leicester this summer already.

Leicester travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday to face Thomas Tuchel’s side, and Fofana

who has been dropped from the first team after missing a training session in an attempt to force a move – will not be available for selection, according to Rodgers.

Rodgers:

“He won’t be available for for the weekend. He has trained with the Under-23 squad.”

“My concentration is with the players that we have in the team so I can’s lose energy thinking too much about it for myself,

but it’ll be something that will be done between the clubs.

Until that happens and we have the continued to work with what we have.”

Leicester’s £80m valuation of Fofana is equal to that they had for Harry Maguire prior to his move to Manchester United in 2019, and

Rodgers was asked to compare the handling of the two situations.

“It was very different. In terms of his behaviour and focus, Harry was fantastic, right until the last minute.”

Rodgers added that James Maddison, who has endured a fine 2022, is also likely to miss the trip to Chelsea with injury.

The impressive Gabriel Jesus scored his first Premier League goals for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta’s side beat Leicester City in an entertaining encounter at Emirates Stadium.

The summer signing scored twice in the first half, and probably should have completed a hat-trick, before laying on goals for Granit Xhaka and Gabriel Martinelli after the break.

William Saliba’s own goal early in the second half gave Leicester hope, but Granit Xhaka struck just two minutes later to restore Arsenal’s two-goal lead.

James Maddison again reduced the arrears, only for Gabriel Martinelli to quickly made it 4-2 as the Gunners maintained their 100% start to the season.

Arsenal XI vs Leicester: Team News, Injury Latest, Possible Lineup, Prediction

Arsenal could welcome back Emile Smith Rowe and Takehiro Tomiyasu against Leicester today, while new signing Fabio Vieira may also be in line for a debut.

The three players have all been struggling with fitness issues of late, but they have taken part in training this week.

As a result, they could feature against Leicester at Emirates Stadium this afternoon, although Mikel Arteta was coy on exactly who would play.

“They have been reintegrated into training this week, all of them,” the Spaniard told reporters at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“They are in different phases, but some of them will be in the squad.”

Kieran Tierney has also been struggling for fitness as he works his way back from a serious knee injury, however he came off the bench in last week’s win over Crystal Palace.

“He played 20 minutes last weekend and he did really well,” said Arteta.

“He has been out for a long time after the knee injury.

“But he looks in perfect condition now and ready to go.”

Reiss Nelson will not keep his place in the matchday squad against Leicester as he deals with a thigh issue.

Arsenal predicted XI (4-3-3):

Odegaard, Partey, Xhaka;

Saka, Jesus, Martinelli

Arsenal squad :

Hein, Ramsdale, Turner;

Elneny, Lokonga, Maitland-Niles, Odegaard, Partey, Saka, Smith Rowe, Vieira, Xhaka;

Jesus, Martinelli, Marquinhos, Nketiah and Pepe.

Arsenal vs Leicester prediction

Arsenal are brimming with confidence while Leicester have started a season with the mood darker than it has been for some time.

The Gunners are primed to take advantage, especially against a team who won just once away from home in the league last season.

An early goal and this could be done quickly.

Arsenal to win 2-0.

Youri Tielemans: Why Is It Now Or Never For Arsenal

There was a time this summer when it looked like Youri Tielemans would be playing for Arsenal and not Leicester this Saturday.

The Gunners have been tracking Tielemans since January, holding preliminary talks with his agent then and sparking a belief that a summer move would follow.

The midfielder is into the final 12 months of his contract and, with Leicester aware he currently has no plans to sign an extension, they are reluctantly open to letting him go for a fee in the region of £25million.

So far, however, Arsenal are yet to make a formal offer for the Belgium international and this weekend they will get the chance to see first-hand what they are missing out on.

The 25-year-old has not downed tools and instead remained professional, starting and playing the whole 90 minutes of Leicester’s Premier League opener against Brentford last weekend.

“Of course, it is in the back of the mind, that sort of what-if scenario,” said Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers ahead of that game.

“But I know he doesn’t want anything to drag on, either.

“The conversation was really good, really open, really honest and we both know where it’s at.

He’s here, and he gets that respect, and we continue to work with him until I’m told otherwise.”

Arsenal still want to do business before the transfer window shuts at the end of this month, with a midfielder and winger the two areas they could strengthen.

The club also want to move players out the door, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Hector Bellerin and Nicolas Pepe among those who could be sold to raise funds and free up space on the wage bill.

There is a chance Arsenal could turn their summer recruitment drive into an aggressive one by signing both a midfielder and winger,

but such a scenario seems unlikely, given they have already spent well over £100m during the current window.

If it becomes a straight choice between signing a midfielder or a wide player, then the case for Tielemans is a compelling one and it feels like a deal too good to turn down.

Arsenal would be signing a player who is coming into his prime.

He is a proven Premier League performer, while he has excelled on the international stage, too, and the fact he is available for around £25m makes him good value.

The idea is that Tielemans could come in and play as a ‘No8’ in Arsenal’s midfield, alongside Martin Odegaard and ahead of Thomas Partey.

The Belgian, however, offers much more than that, as he can sit deep and dictate play, too.

Arsenal do not really have a player in that mould in their current squad, a metronomic playmaker who can dictate play from deep,

and like all of Arsenal’s signings this summer, Tielemans would give Arteta depth and options.
