Thomas Partey’s contract negotiations with Arsenal have stalled, paving the way for Barcelona to swoop for the midfielder on a free transfer.
The Ghanaian’s deal expires this month, and talks with Arsenal have been described as “complex” and “slow-moving.
Partey’s Demands
Partey wants a new deal that reflects his standing as one of Mikel Arteta’s most dependable performers.
He’s reluctant to take a significant pay cut, despite being 32 and having a history of injuries.

Partey has contributed nine goals and seven assists in 167 appearances for Arsenal since joining in 2020.
Barcelona’s Interest
Barcelona have opened negotiations with Partey’s entourage, aiming to sign him on a free transfer.
Partey would ideally like to stay at Arsenal, but he’s not prepared to compromise on his wages.
With Partey’s contract expiring, Arsenal faces an unenviable decision: keep him on a high wage or risk losing him for nothing.
Arsenal’s Dilemma
Keeping Partey would require a significant commitment, given his wage of £200,000 per week.
The Gunners are already losing defensive midfielder Jorginho and may soon welcome Martin Zubimendi, who could take over as Arteta’s main number six.
If Partey departs, Arsenal would need to bolster their midfield to avoid being left in a weaker position.
