Todd Boehly Leaves His Role As Chelsea’s Interim Sporting Director

Todd Boehly will no longer act as Chelsea’s sporting director according to report.

Chelsea co-owner Boehly installed himself as ‘interim’ sporting director, Six months on and the Daily Telegraph report that Boehly has now relinquished control having successfully appointed several new directors to the board.

Christopher Vivell and Paul Winstanley have arrived from RB Leipzig and Brighton respectively, and will be joined by Joe Shields and Laurence Stewart in February once they’ve seen out their notice periods at Southampton and Monaco.

In Boehly’s brief time in charge, Chelsea underwent a highly expensive spending spree, splashing £278.4million on new players, more in a single transfer window than previous owner Roman Abramovich ever did.

However, very few, if any, of these signings have lived up to expectations, with the likes of Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struggling to settle in at Stamford Bridge.

That has left the side languishing down in 10th in the table, 10 points off the top four,

while their humiliating 4-0 loss to Manchester City on Sunday means they are now out of both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

This has all put significant pressure of manager Graham Potter but it is understood that he still has the backing of Boehly.

At the loss at the Etihad, Chelsea supporters chanted the names of both Tuchel and Abramovich as they expressed their displeasure at the club’s recent form.

Abramovich was forced to sell the club after 19 years at the helm following his homeland’s invasion of Ukraine,

which saw the his links to Russian president Vladimir Putin emerge.

Boehly, who fronted a consortium’s £4.25billion takeover, took it upon himself to fill in for Granovskaia but endured a tricky start to English football.
