‘In My Life I Have Never Given Up'_Karim Benzema Ruled Out Of World Cup

Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has been ruled out of the World Cup due to injury he sustained in training.

RMC reported that the French medical staff were “very concerned” about the Real Madrid forward’s prospects of being fit for the competition as a whole on Saturday evening.

Benzema was forced to withdraw from the session after feeling pain in his thigh during a sprint, however, quickly undergoing scans to determine the extent of the problem.

France have now confirmed Real Madrid striker will have no role to play in Qatar, with the injury set to sideline him for at least three weeks.

‘I am extremely sad for Karim who made this World Cup a major goal.’

‘Despite this new blow for the French team, I have full confidence in my group.

‘We will do everything to meet the huge challenge that awaits us.’

A France FA spokesperson added:

‘He had an MRI scan which unfortunately confirmed a lesion of the thigh muscle, which needs a recovery time of three weeks.’

Benzema said in a post:

‘In my life I have never given up but tonight I have to think about the team as I have always

done so reason tells me to leave my place to someone who can help our group have a good World Cup,’ Benzema wrote.

‘Thank you for all your messages of support.’

Deschamps will have the chance to bring in a replacement for Benzema before Monday.

The 34-year-old will now become the first Ballon d’Or winner since Kevin Keegan in 1978 to miss the tournament.

The defending champions have already suffered a number of injury blows heading into

the competition with Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante – key figures in their 2018 success in Russia – both ruled out.

In a further blow, Didier Deschamps is also without RB Leipzig star Christophe Nkunku, who suffered an injury during a training session this week following a challenge from Eduardo Camavinga.

"I Never Doubt My Ability”_ Aaron Ramsey Admits Anything Was Possible'

Aaron Ramsey said he never doubt his ability as Wales are just days away from their first World Cup fixture in 64 years.

Wales will face United States on Monday night In a group that also contains England and Iran,

there is a quiet confidence in the Wales camp that they can make an impact in Qatar over the

coming weeks, with senior pros Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale finally getting the chance to perform on the world stage at international level for the first time in their thirties.

The pair have embarked on two consecutive European Championships, but Ramsey has

revealed that this World Cup appearance had been long overdue for this particular generation of players after the late Gary Speed,

who made Ramsey captain of Wales aged 20, targeted qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil before his passing.

Ramsey has recently recalled tales of him telling his partner at 15 that one day he’d take Wales to the World Cup, and it had been down to Speed for instilling the belief in him from early on in his career that this was possible.

“Gary had this way about him that you would believe anything that he would say.”

“He was a leader. He was absolutely brilliant and convinced us all.

From where we were to where we got to in that short space of time was remarkable really. Anything was possible.”

Referencing the difficult times the senior members of this Welsh squad faced early in

their international careers, Ramsey owes Speed a lot of credit for helping to change the tide in Welsh football – and for playing his part

in building the most successful generation of players the country has ever seen.

“Gary is always in our thoughts with everything that we have done.

He was the one who got things moving for us. He definitely got us ready for these experiences that we have had.

“He will forever be in our thoughts and definitely again on Monday before our first game because that was one of the targets that he set when he first came in – to qualify for that World Cup.

“We didn’t manage to do so but this makes it even more special that we have actually gone on to do that now.”

Wales have a reputation and track record of punching above their weight in recent years,

taking a number of scalps over bigger nations in recent tournament appearances.

But they have a fresher squad nowadays containing senior pros and a new generation of players in their early 20s – most of whom will be

experiencing their first tournament with supporters after COVID affected Euro 2020.

“The reality is we are a small nation and we are up against giants of world football.

We are always going to be trying to compete with the best teams.

We have certainly shown we are capable of doing that over the last few years.

“This team experienced the last European Championships, but it was a strange one.

None of us have experienced a World Cup before, so this is going to be different altogether.

“We have got a few tournaments that we have been a part of and we can take certain experiences from to help us and take it all in.

This team is very humble and will take everything in as it comes.”

Ramsey, Bale and the doubtful Joe Allen will be imperative to Wales’ hopes of progress through the group, and Ramsey is still confident himself and the old guard can deliver when it matters.

“Of course, I still feel like I am more than capable of producing performances.”

“I never doubt my ability. For me, it’s about trying to help my team as much as I can to have a successful tournament.

“I’m really looking forward to it and hopefully I can be in good form and help the team get out of the group.”

And on Bale: “I love having that opportunity to play with him in this Wales shirt.

We have grown up together, we’ve been through all different age groups and things like that so

we understand each other and we just try to go out there and try to represent our country as best as we can.

We try to help as much as we can individually and as a team to try and achieve our goals.

“It’s just a joy to play with him and be a part of this with him.”

Sadio Mane Ruled Out World Cup After Surgery

Former Liverpool star Sadio Mane has been ruled out of the 2022 World Cup due to a leg injury, confirmed by Senegal.

Mane emerged as a doubt for the early stages of the tournament on account of an injury to his right fibula, but was selected in the hope he would be fit to play after the “first games”.

On Thursday evening the Senegal team doctor, Manuel Afonso, announced he would not be able to recover from the injury in time, and will therefore withdraw from the squad.

“Unfortunately, today’s [Thursday] MRI shows us that the improvement is not as favourable as

we imagined and unfortunately we have to withdraw Sadio mane from the World Cup.”

Mane sustained the injury in Bayern Munich’s 6-1 win over Werder Bremen in the penultimate round of Bundesliga games before the tournament in Qatar.

He was substituted after only 20 minutes, and the club diagnosed an injury to the “head of the fibula bone in his lower right leg” the next day.

Mane has scored 30 goals in 93 appearances for his country, and the news of his absence will

come as a significant blow for the continental champions, who would have been hopeful of escaping Group A.

Senegal face a tricky opening fixture against the Netherlands on Monday, before facing the hosts Qatar and wrapping up their group stage against Ecuador.

The two-time African footballer of the year and Senegal’s talisman scored the winning penalty

for his country to win the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in February, beating then-Liverpool team-mate Mohamed Salah’s Egypt in the final.

He scored the winning spot-kick against Egypt again two months later to send the Teranga Lions to Qatar.

While it is a huge blow to Senegal, Mane’s focus will be on his rehabilitation from injury.

Unlike the Premier League where players will be in action a shade over a week after the World Cup final.

Bayern Munich do not resume their Bundesliga season until January 20 when they travel to RB Leipzig.

Leo Messi And Cristiano Ronaldo Records To Break At Qatar 2022 World Cup

Argentina captain Lionel Messi said on Thursday that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will “surely” be the last of his career. Probably Cristiano Ronaldo last World Cup as well.

Messi, who is due to appear in his fifth World Cup, made his international debut in 2005 and has since won 164 caps for Argentina and is the country’s all-time record scorer with 90 goals.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been named the best player in the world five times, will arrive in Qatar with a mission to prove that he can still make a difference.

Ronaldo and Messi won’t just form part of Qatar 2022’s ‘Five Club’ of players who have played in the most World Cups, but also have other new records in their sights.

First to score in five World Cups:

Cristiano Ronaldo netted against Iran 16 years ago and has scored in every tournament since, with seven goals.

Top scorer for Portugal:

Ronaldo is just two off the nine netted by ‘black panther’ Eusebio, who bagged them all in England 66.

Most games as captain:

The 11 captaincies of Ronaldo give him a chance of beating Maradona and Marquez if they reach the final.

Ronaldo debuted as captain in his second tournament, South Africa 2010.

Longest time between first and last WC goals:

Leo Messi has a day’s advantage on him, but Portugal play their group games two days after Argentina…

Most games:

Messi has played 19 games over four World Cups, one less than Javier Mascherano, two less than Diego Maradona, and six less than leader Lothar Matthaus.

If Argentina reach the final and Messi plays in each game, he will have played in more World Cup games than any other player in history.

Most wins:

German striker Miroslav Klose won 17 matches in four World Cups (from 2002-2014).

Messi has 12. Argentina would have to reach the final with a perfect record for him to beat this one.

First player to assist in five World Cups:

He’s already the only player to give assists in four World Cups (five total), and he can raise the bar further.

He’s also three assists behind Diego Maradona, who leads the category.

Most games as captain:

Rafa Marquez (17) and Maradona (16) are under threat, with Messi on 12 and looking to add to it.

It was Maradona who made Messi second captain and when Mascherano did not play against Greece in 2010, he took the armband.

Longest time between first and last WC goals:

He’s in direct competition with Cristiano Ronaldo here.

Ronaldo netted on June 17 2006, while Messi scored against Serbia a day earlier.

The pair have been favoured by the move to winter for the tournament.

First Argentine to score in four:

Maradona (82, 86, 94) and Gabriel Batistuta (94, 98, 02) did it in three World Cups.

With six goals, Messi is two behind Maradona and four off Batistuta as the top scorer for Argentina at the tournament.

Sadio Mane Ruled Out Of Senegals World Cup Openers

Sadio Mane sets to miss Senegal World Cup first match due to injury he sustained during Bayer Munich clash with Werder Bremen.

Former Liverpool winger picked up  a leg injury earlier this month put his availability in Qatar at

risk but Senegal football federation board member Abdoulaye Sow has now clarified the situation.

It has been explained that Mane, 30, will miss his country’s “first games” at the World Cup.

“We will have to rely on playing the first games without Sadio and win without Sadio.”

“No-one would have wanted it, but that’s what’s happened to us.”

Arsenal Duo Martinelli And Gabriel Jesus Named in Brazil 26 Man World Cup Squad

Arsenal duo Gabriel And Gabriel Jesus  have been included in the Brazil squad for the 2022 World Cup, while Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino and Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes have not made the cut.

Jesus had previously been left out of the most recent Brazil squad for the games in September, however he was always been a favourite to go to the World Cup.

The striker, who joined Arsenal in the summer from Manchester City for £45million, has impressed this season at Emirates Stadium

and is keen to thrive for Brazil in Qatar after failing to score at the last World Cup in 2018.

Jesus will be joined in the Brazil squad by Martinelli, who has seemingly got the nod ahead of Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino.

The 21-year-old has found the net five times during the current campaign and he has been in fine form for Arsenal this season.

Martinelli is part of a strong Brazil attack, which includes Neymar, Raphinha and Vinicius Junior.

Arsenal centre-back Gabriel, who scored the winner against Chelsea on Sunday, will be disappointed to not make the cut.

He has been in good form this season but Brazil boss Tite has several options at centre-back, with Eder Militao, Gleison Bremer, Marquinhos and Thiago Silva the four chosen to go.

In total there are 12 Premier League players in Brazil’s 26-man squad, with goalkeepers Alisson and Ederson making it.

Chelsea’s Silva is the only defender from England to go, but the midfield is stacked with Premier League talent – including Lucas Paqueta of West Ham.

Bruno Guimaraes, Casemiro, Fabinho and Fred are also going to Qatar.

In attack, Antony of Manchester United has made the cut and so has Tottenham’s Richarlison.
