Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has addressed the substitution of Alejandro Garnacho during the Europa League clash with Real Sociedad, fueling speculation about the 20-year-old’s future at Old Trafford.
Garnacho, who provided the assist for Joshua Zirkzee’s goal, was replaced by Christian Eriksen in the 78th minute, sparking frustration from the Argentine forward.
Amorim Explains Substitution Decision
Amorim revealed that Garnacho’s fatigue was the primary reason for his substitution, citing the player’s struggles to defend and transition effectively in the second half.

“I felt he was tired, and you see it because we did a lot of transitions in the second half… I look at the game as a whole and not just in transitions,” Amorim explained.
Garnacho’s Frustration and Transfer Rumors
Garnacho’s reaction to being substituted has raised eyebrows, with the player having gone 22 games without scoring.
His frustration has sparked concerns about his long-term future at Manchester United.
Napoli and Chelsea were reportedly interested in signing Garnacho during the January transfer window, with Napoli’s £40m bid rejected.
While Manchester United are not actively seeking to sell Garnacho, serious offers for the player would be considered.
Amorim’s Message to Garnacho
Amorim’s comments suggest that Garnacho needs to improve his overall game, particularly in terms of goal-scoring.
“We are creating chances… We have transitions, we have situations, and sometimes we are missing something.
And that can change, especially in this kind of game, that you need goals that can make a difference for everybody,” Amorim said.
What’s Next for Garnacho?
As the summer transfer window approaches, Garnacho’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain.
Will he be able to rediscover his form and cement his place in the team, or will transfer speculation continue to swirl around the talented young forward?
