Moises Caicedo’s Agent Unhappy As Brighton Denied Arsenal Move

Moises Caicedo was a target for Arsenal through the January window transfer.

Yet, it emerged very quickly that any deal for the Ecuador international was not going to happen.

Caicedo’s agent Manuel Sierra made it clear that he and his client were left frustrated by the situation as a switch to the Emirates is a dream for the young star.

Sierra:

‘The offers were received, you see what is on the table and Moises says that he wants to go forward, that it is the dream of his whole life.

That it is an opportunity that may not be repeated in life.’

Between Sierra and Caicedo, they tried to force through the move before the transfer deadline by posting a message on social media making it clear the player wanted to leave Brighton.

‘We helped draft the statement. In that statement he expresses his wish and his gratitude to the club because they gave him the chance to fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League.

‘We don’t know what can happen tomorrow, maybe he trains and gets injured. We can’t know what’s going to happen.’

Arsenal later ended up landing a strong midfield player in Jorginho.

Arsenal’s victory at Brighton ensures they go seven points clear at top of league after draws for rivals earlier

The Gunners took barely a minute to take the lead when Gabriel Martinelli‘s deflected shot fell into the path of Saka who provided his customary precise first touch and cool finish.

This advantage was doubled, a little fortuitously when, after a corner was half-cleared, Martin Odegaard’s shot into the ground bounced into the top corner.

The lead was three early in the second half when Martinelli shot from a tight angle was parried by Robert Sanchez into the path of Eddie Nketiah who made no mistake from close range.

Brighton pulled a goal back from a smart finish from Kaoru Mitoma but a wonderful forty-yard through-ball from Odegaard put through Martinelli to extend the lead.

The hosts kept battling though and pulled a goal back from Evan Ferguson‘s first goal for the club and had another from Mitoma disallowed.

Arsenal have been boosted by the return of Takehiro Tomiyasu for their trip to Brighton on New Year’s Eve.

Tomiyasu has been struggling with a muscle issue since appearing at the World Cup with Japan and he missed the Gunners’ Boxing Day win over West Ham.

Brighton & Hove Albion came from behind to dump Arsenal out of the Carabao Cup at the third-round stage, inflicting a first home defeat of the season on Mikel Arteta’s side in the process.

Arsenal took the lead slightly against the run of play following a rapid counterattack led by Reiss Nelson, who charged through the middle before playing in Eddie Nketiah, whose right-footed curling shot nestled in the top corner.

Arteta made a raft of changes for the game, including handing Karl Hein a debut,

but it was baptism of fire for the 20-year-old as he took out Danny Welbeck, conceding a penalty and was perhaps fortunate not to see red.

Welbeck sent the young Estonian the wrong way but refused to celebrate against his former club, as the first half ended 1-1.

The Gunners made a bright start to the second period and came within a whisker of taking the lead,

Nketiah’s first-time shot crashing off the inside of the woodwork before bouncing to safety.

But it was Brighton who scored the game’s all-important third goal, with Kaoru Mitoma finishing an intricate attacking move off just shy of the hour-mark.

Roberto De Zerbi’s charges would only grow in confidence from here and they put the game out of Arsenal’s sight when Tariq Lamptey burst through and stuck the ball between the legs of Hein.

Arsenal XI vs Brighton: Team News Possible Lineup

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is expected to make further changes to his side for the match against Brighton.

Matt Turner is expected to start in goal ahead Ramsdale as he looks to get minutes before appearing for the United States at the World Cup.

Turner has been Arsenal’s ‘cup goalkeeper’ this season, but a groin injury has prevented him for playing since October 20.

The USA international has missed Arsenal’s last two Europa League games, however he is fit now and should start the club’s third-round tie against Brighton.

That is a boost for the 28-year-old, who is hoping to be the USA’s No1 goalkeeper at this month’s World Cup in Qatar.

Cedric Soares is hoping to make his first start to the season, while Rob Holding and Kieran Tierney should come into the defence too.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is not expected to play after coming off injured against FC Zurich last week,

but his injury is not thought to be that serious that it’ll keep him out of playing at the World Cup for Japan.

The Arsenal midfield could completely change from Sunday’s win over Chelsea as Albert Sambi Lokonga, Fabio Vieira and Mohamed Elneny are all primed to play.

Eddie Nketiah is expected to lead the line and Reiss Nelson should come into the attack too.

The third forward spot is up for grabs and Arteta could play Gabriel Martinelli, or hand 19-year-old Marquinhos a rare start.

Arsenal squad:

Hein, Ramsdale, Turner;

Cedric, Gabriel, Holding, Saliba, Tierney, Tomiyasu, White, Zinchenko;

Elneny, Lokonga, Odegaard, Partey, Saka, Vieira, Xhaka;

Jesus, Martinelli, Marquinhos, Nelson and Nketiah.

Graham Potter endured a nightmare return to Amex Stadium as Brighton thrashed Chelsea to claim a first victory under their new manager Roberto de Zerbi.

In a chaotic opening, Leandro Trossard’s calm finish put the home side in front after Thiago Silva – who had already produced two goalline clearances to deny the Seagulls – surrendered possession cheaply in his own half.

Two own goals extended Brighton’s lead before the break, Ruben Loftus-Cheek putting through his own net from a Solly March corner before Trevoh Chalobah slid Pervis Estupinan’s low cross past Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Kai Havertz nodded in Conor Gallagher’s exquisite cross to give the visitors hope two minutes after the interval, but a second-half Chelsea recovery failed to materialise.

Pascal Gross capped a miserable afternoon for Potter and his players with a close-range finish in second-half stoppage time.

The victory lifts De Zerbi’s side up to seventh, while Chelsea stay fifth after suffering their first defeat of Potter’s tenure.

Chelsea XI Vs Brighton: Team News, Possible Lineup

Chelsea remain without Kalidou Koulibaly but have been boosted by Mateo Kovacic’s fitness ahead of the weekend trip to face Brighton.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Blues boss Graham Potter confirmed that Kovacic’s calf issue that forced the midfielder off against RB Salzburg in the Champions League was just fatigue.

He is available for the Saturday game.

Meanwhile, Koulibaly’s knee injury will keep him out of the south coast trip but is in contention to face Dinamo Zagreb in the final Group E match on Wednesday night.

Longer-term absentees Reece James, N’Golo Kante and Wesley Fofana all remain on the sidelines until after the World Cup.

It leaves Potter with selection decisions to make across his entire team, beginning with which formation to use against Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

✓: Manchester City XI vs Leicester: Team News Possible Lineup

Potter has been known to switch formations from match to match and even during games, so both a back four and back three are possible.

The decision to rest Mason Mount, Cesar Azpilicueta and Ben Chilwell in midweek mean they will all likely start.

Azpilicueta would allow Chelsea to play in a back four with Ruben Loftus-Cheek also likely to come in to freshen up the team after being left out against Salzburg.

Kepa Arrizabalaga will continue in goal and there are no alternatives to Trevoh Chalobah and Thiago Silva in defence.

Kovacic may be used as a substitute due to ongoing fitness concerns despite his recovery.

The biggest decisions come in attack after Pierre Emerick Aubameyang’s wasteful performance in Austria on Tuesday,

with Armando Broja pushing for another start after being given the opportunity against Brentford.

Predicted Chelsea XI:

Kepa;

Azpilicueta, Chalobah, Thiago Silva, Chilwell;

Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho, Mount;

Havertz, Aubameyang, Sterling.

 Manchester City defeat Brighton 3-1 to move close to Arsenal as Erling Haaland strikes twice to bounce back to his scoring form.

After a frustrating time of things at Anfield a week ago, Haaland continued his remarkable record on home soil as he made it 12 goals

in his first five Premier League matches at the Etihad.

It’s 17 in all in the league, six short of Heung-min Son and Mohamed Salah’s total last season as they shared the Golden Boot.

The latest two from Haaland came in the first-half and although Leandro Trossard halved the deficit after the break as the Seagulls piled on the pressure.

Kevin De Bruyne restored the two-goal advantage with a stunning finish as City moved a point behind Arsenal at the top of the table.

It was a relatively even start at the Etihad, both sides looking comfortable in possession without creating anything in the way of clear-cut chances.

Haaland went down after beating Robert Sanchez to the ball, only for the referee and

VAR to dismiss those appeals, but the Norwegian had to wait barely a minute before his goal did come.

Ederson punted a wonderful ball over the top with Haaland again too quick for Sanchez and,

once Adam Webster had just been bounced to the floor, the City striker rolled the ball into the empty net.

His and City’s tally was doubled just before the break, as Bernardo Silva this time went down in the box.

No penalty was given and play continued for a significant amount of time, before the referee eventually halted proceedings as he went over to look at the monitor.

He returned to point to the spot, and Haaland did the rest despite Sanchez going the right way.

Brighton were much the better side immediately after the break, though Riyad Mahrez had the chance to put the match to bed as Sanchez produced a good save with his feet.

That proved a costly miss seconds later when the Seagulls halved the deficit,

Trossard hammering a strike past Ederson at the near post to end Brighton’s long run without a goal.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser and looked by far the more dangerous of the two sides,

Trossard driving into box as he looked for his second but this time Ederson was up to the task.

With nerves starting to build, De Bruyne stepped up to restore control and effectively put the match to bed.

Bernardo found the Belgian, who from 25 yards out whipped a sensational finish into the top corner to bring an immediate halt to the Brighton charge.

 Energetic Liverpool come back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 against Brighton at Anfield, the visitor snatched a point right at the death as Roberto de Zerbi’s first match in charge of the south-coast side ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw.

The Seagulls took a shock lead after just four minutes, as Leandro Trossard finished well into the bottom corner from close range past Alisson in the Liverpool goal after some neat one-touch play in the build-up.

Brighton’s afternoon at Anfield then got even better as Trossard had his brace after 18 minutes.

The Belgian latched onto Solly March’s first-time through pass in the penalty area to once again finish low into the corner of the net, as the home crowd were stunned.

Liverpool slowly grew into the game despite Brighton’s threat on the break, and in the 33rd minute, the hosts had one back.

Mohamed Salah’s cut-back in the penalty area found Roberto Firmino, and the forward had an easy tap-in at the back post.

After a VAR check for an initial offside call against Salah, the initial decision to disallow the goal was overturned.

Jurgen Klopp’s side then had their equaliser nine minutes into the second half,

as Firmino notched his second goal of the game with a cool finish into the net from close range following a clinical counter attack.

Liverpool thought they had completed the comeback with 25 minutes to play as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner rebounded off the

arm of Adam Webster in the six-yard box and into the Brighton defender’s own net to give the Reds what appeared set to be their third league win of the season.

However, Brighton dramatically equalised seven minutes from time, as Trossard tapped in at the back post from Kaoru Mitoma’s cross to seal a stunning hat-trick and to secure a vital point for his side.
