Atletico Madrid Set Sights on Liverpool's Luis Diaz as Summer Transfer Target

Atletico Madrid has emerged as a surprise suitor for Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz, according to a report by Fichajes.

The La Liga title-chasers have identified Diaz as a prime target for the summer transfer window, amidst uncertainty over his future at Anfield.

Diaz’s Liverpool Contract Situation

Diaz, 28, has been a key player for Liverpool this season, contributing to 17 goals in 38 appearances.

However, his productivity has slowed down in recent games, with just one goal and one assist in his last 10 Premier League outings.

Diaz’s current contract with Liverpool expires in 2027, and the Reds have reportedly made little progress in extension talks.

Atletico Madrid’s Interest in Diaz

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is said to admire Diaz’s versatility and “unbalanced” nature, which would make him an ideal fit for the Rojiblancos’ system.

With Antoine Griezmann and Angel Correa due to become free agents in 2025, Atletico may be looking to strengthen their attacking options.

Diaz would not be a like-for-like replacement for Griezmann, but his ability to play on the left wing and as a central striker makes him an attractive prospect.

Transfer Fee and Competition from Barcelona

Liverpool is reportedly willing to listen to offers ranging from €60m (£49.5m) to €70m (£57.8m) for Diaz in the summer transfer window.

Atletico Madrid’s interest in Diaz will likely face competition from Barcelona, who have also been linked with the Colombian attacker.

Whether Atletico can meet Liverpool’s demands for Diaz remains to be seen, but the potential departure of Griezmann could free up space on the wage bill.
