Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Eye AC Milan Midfielder Tijjani Reijnders Amidst Champions League Uncertainty

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders in the summer transfer window, should the Italian side fail to qualify for the Champions League.

According to CalcioMercato, the Blues have inquired about Reijnders’ availability, with AC Milan’s financial struggles potentially forcing them to sell key players.

Reijnders’ Versatility and Skillset

The 26-year-old midfielder has impressed with his versatility, operating in both deeper and more advanced roles for AC Milan.

Reijnders has scored eight goals and provided two assists in 26 Serie A games this season, exceeding his expected goals figure of 4.5.

His ability to dribble past opponents and create progressive carries has been a notable asset for the Italian side.

Chelsea’s Midfield Conundrum

While Reijnders’ skills would undoubtedly strengthen Chelsea’s midfield, it’s unclear whether he would be a regular starter.

With Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez already competing for attacking midfield roles, Reijnders might find himself relegated to a deeper position.

Considering Chelsea’s significant investment in midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, it’s possible that the club should prioritize strengthening other areas.

Defensive Reinforcements a Priority?

Chelsea’s defensive struggles have been a persistent concern, with only three clean sheets in their last 22 league fixtures.

The Blues have also dealt with numerous injuries in the backline, making defensive reinforcements a pressing need.

With the summer transfer window approaching, Chelsea may need to reassess their priorities and focus on shoring up their defense rather than adding another midfielder.
