Lee Carsley Takes Interim Charge of England Men’s National Team.

The Football Association has announced that Lee Carsley will assume interim management of the England men’s national team for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches.

Following Gareth Southgate‘s post-Euro 2024 departure, Carsley, currently the Under-21s boss, will lead the Three Lions against the Republic of Ireland and Finland in September.

Carsley expressed his pride in taking on the role, stating:

“It’s an honor to step up and lead this England squad on an interim basis.

Given my familiarity with the players and international football cycle, it’s a natural fit for me to guide the team while the FA searches for a permanent manager.”

The FA is actively seeking a long-term successor to Southgate, and Carsley’s appointment ensures continuity and stability for the team during this transition period.

“My main priority is to ensure continuity and our goal is to secure promotion in the UEFA Nations League.”

FA CEO Mark Bullingham added:

“Lee is a fantastic coach who is well known to the majority of our current senior squad having worked with most at international or club level.

“He offers us a very strong interim solution and we are confident he will perform well in the UEFA Nations League games ahead.

We are grateful to Lee for stepping up to manage the team while we continue with our recruitment process.”
