Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has confirmed plans to rotate his squad for Monday’s Premier League clash against Ipswich Town at Portman Road. Following a disappointing 2-1 loss to Fulham, Maresca is set to shake up his starting lineup as the Blues look to regain momentum.
Maresca Signals Changes for Ipswich Clash
The defeat to Fulham, where Chelsea squandered their lead in the final minutes, highlighted the need for a fresh approach. Criticism followed Maresca’s decision to make just one substitution—Christopher Nkunku for Nicolas Jackson in the 73rd minute.
Speaking to football.london, Maresca defended his earlier decision, stating that the players on the pitch were performing well. However, he acknowledged the demands of a congested schedule and emphasized the importance of keeping the squad fresh.
“For sure, after a game, you need to go again no matter the result, especially this month,” Maresca said. “We’ve already played eight or nine games in just 25 or 27 days. It’s important to recover energy, and we’ll definitely make changes. Whether it’s one, two, or three, we’ll see.”
Potential Lineup Changes for Chelsea
With a four-day gap between matches, Maresca has the opportunity to rotate key players. Nkunku could make his third Premier League start of the season, potentially replacing Jackson up front.
Joao Felix may also feature in the starting XI, possibly taking the place of Pedro Neto or Jadon Sancho. Cole Palmer, who has impressed in central roles, could be shifted to the wing to accommodate the change.
Noni Madueke, absent from the squad against Fulham, is available for selection, while Renato Veiga may earn a spot in central midfield if Romeo Lavia remains sidelined.
Defensively, Axel Disasi is the most likely candidate to return, as Chelsea aim to strengthen their backline after recent lapses.

Chelsea’s Premier League Position
The loss to Fulham left Chelsea seven points behind league leaders Liverpool, who secured victory over Leicester City later that day. At one stage during the Boxing Day fixtures, Chelsea appeared poised to close the gap to just one point, but late goals dashed those hopes.
Maresca’s side now faces a crucial test against Ipswich Town, with the pressure mounting to secure a win and stay in contention at the top of the table.
What to Expect Against Ipswich
Chelsea will need a strong response after their recent setback, and Maresca’s squad rotation could provide the spark they need. With a mix of experienced players and fresh legs, the Blues aim to deliver a convincing performance and reignite their Premier League campaign.
