Kyle Walker has revealed the details of his difficult conversation with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola before his recent loan move to AC Milan.
The 34-year-old defender had expressed his desire to leave the club and explore opportunities abroad, leading to a tense discussion with his former manager.
Walker’s Respect for Guardiola
Speaking in a press conference, Walker acknowledged the respect he has for Guardiola, with whom he shared numerous successes, including six Premier League titles and the 2022-23 Champions League.
“When I spoke with Pep, it wasn’t a very comfortable conversation – mainly because of the respect we have for each other,” Walker said.
Seeking a Fresh Challenge
Walker admitted that he had a “gut feeling” that prompted him to seize the opportunity to play for the five-time European champions.

“I could have stayed in Manchester, I would have honoured the contract if they hadn’t let me leave because that’s me as a person,” Walker added.
“But it comes down to challenges where you think ‘OK I need to try something different.”
New Chapter at AC Milan
Walker has become the fourth Englishman in Milan’s squad, joining Fikayo Tomori, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Tammy Abraham.
Although he is not eligible to feature in Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Dinamo Zagreb, Walker could make his Milan debut in Sunday’s highly anticipated derby against Inter Milan.
