Gary Neville has raised doubts about Manchester United’s choice to sell Anthony Elanga, the Nottingham Forest winger who showcased an impressive performance against his former club, playing a pivotal role in their 2-1 victory.
During the summer, the Sweden international was considered surplus to requirements, despite playing a significant role in the initial phase of Erik ten Hag‘s tenure.
Elanga, acquired by Forest for just £15 million, was eager to depart in pursuit of regular first-team opportunities.

Despite his new team’s challenges, his commendable performance has bolstered his reputation.
The 21-year-old’s notable progress has drawn attention to Manchester United‘s decision to invest substantially in players like Antony and Jadon Sancho while allowing an academy graduate to leave for a comparatively modest fee.
England international Sancho has spent the majority of the season in exile having refused to apoligise to his manager.
Antony, meanwhile, lasted just 54 minutes at the City Ground before succumbing to injury and finished 2023 with just one club goal to his name.
Elanga, by contrast, played a crucial role in both of Forest’s goals in what was Nuno Espirito’s first home win in charge of the Tricky Trees.
Neville on Sky Sports:
‘You have to question whether he’s better than some of the ones he’s left behind.’
‘The money they’ve spent in wide areas. Sancho was £70-odd million, Antony £90m and Elanga gone!’
