Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has dismissed claims that Mathys Tel initially turned down a move to the club before eventually joining on loan from Bayern Munich.
Tel’s Transfer Saga
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy reportedly flew to Germany for face-to-face talks with Tel, and despite initial claims that the 19-year-old had rejected a move to Tottenham, Postecoglou has revealed that Tel was simply taking his time to make a decision.
Postecoglou Praises Tel’s Diligence
“I think people need to understand that you’re talking about a 19-year-old who has to make a major decision for his career,” Postecoglou

“It’s not that he rejected us or rejected anyone else. I think he just wanted to be comfortable with his decision.”
Tel’s Commitment to Tottenham
Postecoglou expressed his confidence that Tel is committed to Tottenham, saying: “Yes, 100%.
I am more than 100% sure because he took so much time, was so diligent about finding out everything.
He had other options, so it gave me more confidence that we are getting the right kind of mentality, the right kind of player.”
Tel’s Future at Tottenham
When asked about Tel’s future beyond his initial loan spell, Postecoglou joked: “He’ll be a Tottenham player, mate. He’ll be a Tottenham player.
I think he’ll show everyone he’s going to be a Tottenham player in the next six months.”
Tel’s Struggles at Bayern Munich
Tel found it difficult to make an impact at Bayern Munich this season, failing to score in 14 appearances in all competitions.
However, Postecoglou is confident that the young forward will thrive at Tottenham.
