Chelsea’s captain, Reece James, is poised to be absent from the team for a substantial four-month period due to his decision to undergo surgery for a hamstring injury.
Earlier this month, James suffered a recurrent hamstring strain during Chelsea’s loss to Everton at Goodison Park.
The club, upon receiving inconclusive initial scan results regarding James’ injury, decided to seek a second opinion to determine the most effective course of action.
Typically, hamstring injuries are often resolved through rest and non-invasive treatments.
James is now confronting the worst possible outcome, looking at a potential absence of up to four months from active play.

That would see James returning to action in April at best, and it puts his spot at Euro 2024 with England under threat.
James has been plagued with injuries over the last 18 months and he’s already missed three months of the season.
Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembele has been similarly plagued by hamstring injuries during his career.
Dembele also visited Finland to be seen by specialists, and he underwent a similar procedure to what James will.
It’s felt that an operation is best for James to try and cure the problem once and for all.
