Phil Foden Believes There Is Only One Manchester City Player That Can Cost Them Win Nothing This Season

Phil Foden

Phil Foden cautioned that Manchester City’s chances of securing further trophies this season might be in jeopardy unless Kevin De Bruyne is fully fit and performing in the latter part of the campaign.

Throughout De Bruyne‘s extended absence, City, who already secured the UEFA Super Cup this season, faced challenges in their typical performance levels within the Premier League title race.

During November and December, they managed to gather only seven points across six games at one point.

This is precisely why Foden emphasizes the crucial significance of the Belgian for the upcoming months ahead.

Foden explained, via ManCity.com.

“Everyone was buzzing to have him back.”

“If we’re going to win anything, we need him at it.

He’s one of the best players in the world, no one can do what he does.

“You could see the stadium roaring when he came on [against Huddersfield] and it just shows how big and important he is for us.

To have him back on the field, it gives us a lift as well. I am delighted for him to come back and hopefully he remains injury free because we need him.”

De Bruyne made 49 appearances during City’s treble-winning campaign, the most he has played in any season since the 2017/18 ‘Centurions’ year when he featured 52 times.

Meanwhile De Bruyne reveals his injury-enforced break as beneficial for himself and Manchester City.

“It’s not like I needed a break but I took it, to turn a disadvantage into an advantage.”

“When I reflect on my career, playing the last 10 years non-stop with a short break,

maybe it was good for me to reset a little bit in a way and take care of myself when it is not really possible during the year.

“I hoped I could work hard and come back in a good way and I feel that I’m doing that but obviously I need to progress.”

De Bruyne missed 27 games before returning to the squad for the 2-0 win over Sheffield United on Dec. 30.

He made his comeback in the 5-0 FA Cup win against Huddersfield, contributing an assist to Jeremy Doku in his first match back following hamstring surgery.
