Kobbie Mainoo Makes History in Manchester United's Europa League Win

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo etched his name into the club’s history books with a stellar performance in Thursday’s 2-0 Europa League triumph over FCSB.

Mainoo Emulates Wayne Rooney Feat

The 19-year-old England international became the first Manchester United player to score and assist on their first major European start since a teenage Wayne Rooney achieved the feat against Fenerbahce in the Champions League in 2004.

Clinical Finish and Assist

Mainoo sealed the win for the Red Devils with a clinical first-time strike from Alejandro Garnacho’s low cross, just eight minutes after Diogo Dalot had opened the scoring.

The youngster also registered the assist for Dalot’s strike, playing a crisp ball to the far post.

Breakthrough Performance

His contributions on the night were also his first direct goal involvements of the season, ending a 22-game drought without a goal or assist.

Thanks to Mainoo’s display, Manchester United finished third in the league phase with 18 points and will face one of AZ Alkmaar, Galatasaray, Real Sociedad, or FC Midtjylland in the last 16.
