Manchester United Identify Liam Delap as Top Striker Target for Summer Transfer Window

Manchester United are reportedly gearing up to make a move for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap in the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old has been in impressive form for Ipswich this season, scoring nine goals and registering two assists in 23 Premier League appearances.

Delap’s Contract Situation and Buy-Back Option

Delap has a contract at Portman Road until June 2029, but his future at the club remains uncertain. Manchester City, his former club, have a buy-back option worth £29.5m, which could potentially scupper Manchester United’s plans.

Chelsea are also believed to be interested in signing Delap.

Manchester United’s Interest and Transfer Committee Discussions

According to reports, Manchester United’s transfer committee met in January to discuss centre-forward options, and Delap was identified as a prime target.

The club’s CEO Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox are familiar with Delap from their time at Manchester City and are believed to be in favour of a summer move.

Competition from Manchester City and Chelsea

However, Manchester City’s buy-back option could give them the upper hand in the transfer saga.

The Citizens could potentially re-sign Delap and then sell him at a higher price.

Chelsea are also lurking in the shadows, waiting to pounce if Manchester United’s interest cools.

Alternative Options: Viktor Gyokeres Still on Manchester United’s Radar

While Delap is Manchester United’s top striker target, the club is also keeping tabs on Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres.

The Sweden international has been in excellent form this season, scoring 34 goals and registering seven assists in 33 appearances.
