Meanwhile, Atlético’s pursuit of Julián Álvarez from Manchester City remains unaffected by the change in plans.

The LaLiga side is undergoing an ambitious squad rebuild, having already signed Robin Le Normand and Alexander Sørloth.

Gallagher’s move to Atlético is still on the cards, but the clubs must navigate the revised transfer landscape.
