Arsenal Agree €33.5 Million Deal to Sign Mikel Merino

The Gunnar’s have reached an agreement with Real Sociedad for the transfer of midfielder Mikel Merino in a deal valued at €33.5 million (£28.4m), plus an additional €5 million in performance-related add-ons.

According to multiple reports, Merino is set to undergo a medical before signing a four-year contract with Arsenal, which includes an option to extend for an additional year.

Merino has been on Arsenal’s radar for an extended period, and his exclusion from Sociedad’s squad for their La Liga opener against Rayo Vallecano signaled that a move was on the horizon.

With the transfer nearing completion, Merino faces a race against time to be registered as an Arsenal player before the midday deadline tomorrow.

Given the tight timeline, the midfielder is unlikely to make his debut in Arsenal’s upcoming match away at Aston Villa.

This makes next week’s home fixture against Brighton a more realistic target for Merino’s first appearance in an Arsenal shirt.
