Unfortunately, Wilder faltered in meeting his end of the agreement, experiencing an unexpected defeat at the hands of Joseph Parker, casting doubt on the anticipated showdown.
Joshua, fighting three times in a year for the first time since 2016, closed the show in style against Wallin, who looked a class below the former Olympian.
Through a few rounds, Joshua had bloodied the nose of Wallin, but he was not putting any combinations together, instead opting to pot-shot his opponent.
But, in round five this all changed, as Joshua landed a thunderous right hand-left hook combination that sent his opponent stumbling back against the ropes.
AJ followed up with a brutal barrage of punches, but the Swede survived and made it back to his corner at the end of the round.
Wallin’s trainer Joey Gamache decided enough was enough and pulled his man out of the fight.
The win sees Joshua extend his professional record to 27 wins and three defeats, proving he is still a force to be reckoned with at the summit of boxing’s blue-riband division.
