Ivan toney replacement at Brentford

Brentford announces signing of Ivan Toney replacement amidst summer transfer rumors surrounding the English star.

Arsenal and Chelsea pursued Toney during the January transfer window, but despite their efforts, no deal was reached.

However, both clubs are poised to reignite their interest when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.

Manchester United is also monitoring Toney’s situation and is prepared to compete with the two London clubs for the 27-year-old’s signature in the summer.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has acknowledged the likelihood of Toney’s departure at the end of the season, and his anticipated exit now appears almost certain

That’s because Brentford announced the signing of Igor Thiago from Club Brugge on Wednesday – with the Brazilian forward penning a five-year contract – and set to link up with his new teammates in west London in the summer.

Frank has described Thiago as a ‘key player for a key position’ in a hint that he will replace Toney for the 2024-25 campaign.

Frank reveals to the Brentford website.

‘I’m very pleased that we have been proactive as a club.’

‘We are ahead of the curve.

‘ We have signed a key player for a key position. Thiago is a very exciting striker who fits the role in our team.

‘He is hard working and a very good pressing player. He is also a physical presence, very good in the box and can link the play.

‘He’s progressing well in the Belgian league, so there is big potential and we are looking forward to seeing him in a red and white shirt.’

Thiago is the second-top scorer in the Belgian Pro League this season, with his 16 goals in 24 games bettered only by Kevin Denkey’s 19 for Cercle Bruges.
