Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola’s emphasis on Bruno Fernandes ahead of the upcoming Manchester derby underscores the pivotal role the United captain plays in the dynamics of the game.

Guardiola not only acknowledges the Portuguese midfielder’s undeniable talent but also highlights the threat he poses to Manchester City‘s defensive strategies.

City Boss insistence on nullifying Fernandes reflects the meticulous tactical planning required to contain a player of his caliber, one who possesses the innate ability to turn the tide of a match with his creative prowess.

Despite Fernandes’ undeniable talent, his season has been marked by moments of criticism, particularly regarding his captaincy.

Roy Keane‘s suggestion in October that Fernandes should be stripped of the captain’s armband, followed by Gary Neville‘s questioning of his desire for leadership, has created a backdrop of scrutiny around the midfielder.

However, Fernandes has repeatedly responded to these challenges with resilience and determination, showcasing his mental fortitude and commitment to the team’s cause.

Most recently, Fernandes faced scrutiny following Manchester United‘s disappointing defeat to Fulham.

Yet, he swiftly silenced doubters by delivering a crucial assist for Casemiro’s late FA Cup winner against Nottingham Forest midweek.

Guardiola Said:

‘He is an exceptional player, Especially the consistency to play in every single game and in every single competition.

‘I admire him a lot for that. He is a guy that when he has the ball, something is going to happen.

In set pieces, in connections with players up front with [Alejandro] Garnacho, with Rashford, all the strikers they have up there.

‘What can I say, he is a really, really important player.’

Asked if his side will be working specifically to nullify Fernandes’ threat, Guardiola added: ‘Of course, it always has to be like that. Always he can be creating something.’

With City currently operating on another level to their rivals, Guardiola was asked if Fernandes and Luke Shaw would be the only United players he would take in his City squad.
