Manchester United Eyes Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting For Striker Hunt

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting

Manchester United might conclude the January transfer window without securing a new striker, but they have Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting from Bayern Munich on their radar if they decide to add a forward.

The Red Devils had looked at and enquired about Timo Werner back in November, but they never formally followed up on that interest.

Werner has instead joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the season with an option to buy,

but they did not necessarily ‘beat’ United to his signature despite appreciation of the Germany international coming from Old Trafford.

Sources have confirmed that another striker under consideration by United is Choupo-Moting, whose contract at Bayern Munich expires in the summer.

The 34-year-old has been sparingly used by head coach Thomas Tuchel following the marquee arrival of Harry Kane in summer.

Choupo-Moting has played only 519 minutes across 14 matches for Bayern this term, scoring just two goals – but last season he scored 17 goals in all competitions.

Choupo-Moting is seen as a target who may be within United’s economic limits, but there is nothing advanced regarding a deal at this stage.

Serhou Guirassy, who is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations with Guinea but nursing a minor injury, is also liked by United.

However, all indications suggest he is happy to stay at Stuttgart until the end of the season, despite his €17.5m (£15m) release clause.

Looking ahead, United has internally discussed the prospect of Jonathan David as a long-term striker option.

The Canadian’s contract at Lille expires in 2025, potentially prompting the Ligue 1 club to consider a sale this summer.
