Transfer: Newcastle United Are Not Ready To Meet Arsenal’s Asking Price For Aaron Ramsdale

Newcastle United are reportedly unwilling to meet Arsenal’s £30 million asking price for Aaron Ramsdale.

Eddie Howe is seeking to sign a new goalkeeper to compete with Nick Pope, who missed most of the season due to a dislocated shoulder.

Ramsdale made just 11 appearances across all competitions this term after Mikel Arteta signed David Raya on loan from Brentford and made the Spaniard his first-choice goalkeeper.

Arsenal have decided to make Raya’s move permanent for £27 million this summer, suggesting that Ramsdale will look to leave the Emirates Stadium to secure regular playing time once again.

According to report, Newcastle represent a potential destination for Ramsdale but the club believe Arsenal’s £30m valuation is ‘too high’.

The report claims that Newcastle are looking at alternatives and also on the shortlist is Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, who lost his place in the team for the final two months of the season but is available for £20m.

Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is also on Newcastle’s radar but, similar to Ramsdale, represents a more expensive option.

Chelsea also retain an interest in Trafford but will need to offload Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman believes Ramsdale needs to leave the Gunners.

He said:

‘You aren’t going to develop being a number two.’

‘You’re going to get left behind in the pecking order because other goalkeepers will start playing.

‘As an Arsenal fan, I don’t really want Aaron Ramsdale to go. But then as an ex-England goalkeeper, I want to see another keeper developing.

‘When I’m looking at it, I think he could go to somewhere like Chelsea to give himself a better shot of getting first team action.

I think there are a few clubs who he would suit, maybe someone like West Ham too.’

Ramsdale joined Arsenal in 2021 and quickly became the first-choice goalkeeper, but the arrival of David Raya relegated him to the bench.
