“Before the WC there was talk that Leandro Trossard should replace me, and that is completely understandable.”

Even I wondered why I played when he was supposed to be on the bench.

I had worked hard, I was injured so I couldn’t play against Italy. It was a big mental blow.

Manchester United saw Casemiro sent off in the first half as they drew 0-0 in a frenetic match with Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

United were looking to get back to winning ways in the league after their 7-0 defeat to Liverpool last week,

while a win for Southampton would have lifted them out of the bottom three after their struggles so far this season.

Both sides had chances, with Raphael Varane going close for United, and Theo Walcott bringing an excellent save from David De Gea,

but the big story of the first half was Casemiro seeing red for the second time this season, for a studs-up challenge on Carlos Alcaraz.

In the second half, Southampton stretched United who were slack in possession and rattled from the constant pressing of their opponents, with James Ward-Prowse and Walcott going close,

though United also hit the woodwork through Bruno Fernandes.
Despite the loose play and attacking intent from both sides, neither made a breakthrough.

While United remain in third place, Southampton also fail to move up from their spot at the bottom of the table but they are just two points from safety.

Leandro Trossard made history with a hat-trick of first-half assists as Arsenal moved five points clear at the Premier League summit with a convincing 3-0 victory at Fulham.

The Gunners completely overwhelmed their opponents with a particularly dominant showing,

as Mikel Arteta’s men further underlined their intent to end a 19-year wait since their last top-flight title.

A two-goal blast in a five-minute period midway through the opening period saw Brazilians Gabriel and Gabriel Martinelli nod home simple headers.

It took the latter’s tally to a personal best of 12 league goals so far this term and five in his last five league outings.

Martin Odegaard then put the result beyond doubt on the stroke of half-time as he took down Trossard’s cross and rifled past Bernd Leno.

The contribution from the Belgian forward saw him become the first player in Premier League history to clock up a trio of assists in the first half of an away game.

Fulham improved following the interval and went close when Tosin Adarabioyo headed against the crossbar.

Manchester City narrowed the gap to two points between themselves and Premier League leaders Arsenal after their 1-0 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Pep Guardiola’s side started on the front foot from the moment the first whistle was blown, dominating in both possession,

entries into the box and shots, but didn’t fully test Vincente Guaita, with their eight shots in the first half all being off-target.

The hosts were organised and were able to keep the visitors at bay, but were unable to offer any threat from set-pieces or counter-attack situations.

The second half was a lot more cagey to start from both sides, who grew frustrated at their lack of chances.

City had a golden chance to open up the scoring after Jack Grealish was pulled back by Luka Milivojevic right on the edge of the box.

The resulting free-kick saw Phil Foden’s bending shot go around the wall, and towards goal, but Guaita managed to dive quickly to his right to push the shot away from danger.

Late in the half, Michael Olise clipped Ilkay Gundogan in the box after running into him, and the referee did not hesitate to point to the spot.

Erling Haaland stepped up to take the penalty, and sent Guaita the wrong way to score his fifth goal from the spot this season.

Chelsea made it to three win in a row as they beat Leicester City 3-1 to record their first Premier League away win since October.

Graham Potter‘s side took the lead after just 11 minutes thanks to a terrific volley from former fox Ben Chilwell.

Chelsea thought they had doubled their advantage in the 35th minute when Joao Felix finished off a brilliant team move, but it was ruled out for offside following a VAR check.

Just four minutes later, Leicester City had an equaliser. Felix had his pocket picked by Ricardo Pereira, who laid it off for Patson Daka to thunder home from distance to make it 1-1.

It didn’t take long for The Blues to go back ahead, though. Enzo Fernandez dinked a wonderful ball over the top for Kai Havertz, who was able to flick his effort over Danny Ward and into the back of the net.

Chelsea wrapped up all three points 10 minutes from time when Mateo Kovacic improvised brilliantly to volley home from close range.

Leicester were reduced to 10 men late in the game when Wout Faes received his second yellow card for a late tackle.
