Sergio Ramos has an unwanted record with his unprecedented feat of receiving two red cards in a single match, marking a new occurrence even for the seasoned player.
During his time playing for Sevilla in a La Liga match, the former Spain defender experienced this unusual event as his team suffered a 2-1 loss against Real Sociedad.
But while Sevilla had two players sent off in the match, it was Ramos’ dismissal that proved to be somewhat bizarre.
With Real Sociedad trying to close out their 2-1 lead, frustrations were boiling over in the Sevilla side with Ramos picking up a second booking for a foul on Brais Mendez.
After furious appeals, the referee consulted VAR and rescinded the second yellow card – only to then show him a straight-red card instead.

The decision left the players puzzled, and Jesus Navas was also shown the red card, leaving Sevilla with only nine players on the field during the final minutes of the game.
Ramos received his 29th career red card, yet even for him, the circumstances surrounding this dismissal were unusual.
Ramos stands as one of football’s most decorated players, boasting seven league titles, four Champions League trophies, three domestic cups, and four Club World Cup victories in his career.
He also picked up a staggering 180 caps for Spain that saw him win two European Championships and a World Cup.
