UEFA 2023/24 campaign is well underway, as Manchester City are the current European champions, having beaten Inter Milan 1–0 in the 2023 final for their first title.

Arsenal are eager to return to the Champions League after a six-year absence, while Manchester United and Barcelona will also likely be in the mix come the knockout stages.

The 2023/24 campaign will be the final season of Champions League football as we know it, with a new format set to be introduced next year.

When is the champions league group stage draw?

The qualifying stages will soon reach their conclusion where it will determine which 32 clubs will be drawn out by legends of the competition.

The group stage draw will take place on Thursday, August 31 at 17.00 BST at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

Which teams are in the group stage draw?

The draw will feature 32 teams – 26 automatic qualifiers and the first three play-off round winners listed below,

as well as the remaining three play-off round winners set to be confirmed on 30 August.

The clubs will be split into four seeding pots, to be confirmed on the morning of the draw.

What happens after the draw?

Fixtures will be confirmed after the draw, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the round of 16.

The third-placed sides in each group transfer to the UEFA Europa League knockout round play-offs,

where they will face the UEFA Europa League group runners-up for places in the last 16.

When Does The Group Stage Start?

The UEFA Champions League group stage kicks off in September.

It will commence shortly after the first international break of the season which runs from September 4-12.

The group-stage dates are:

  • Matchday 1: September 19/20 2023

 

  • Matchday 2: October 3/4 2023

 

  • Matchday 3: October 24/25 2023

 

  • Matchday 4: November 7/8 2023

 

  • Matchday 5: November 28/29 2023

 

  • Matchday 6: December 12/13 2023

 

What else happens during the draw ceremony?

The 2022/23 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year, UEFA Women’s Player of the Year, UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year and UEFA Women’s Coach of the Year awards will also be presented during the group stage draw ceremony.

The 2023 UEFA President’s Award will be presented by UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin.
