Barcelona Are In Talks To Sell Camp Nou

Barcelona are negotiating a deal with streaming service Spotify that will see the Swedish company take on the naming rights to their Camp Nou stadium.

Spotify will also replace Japanese electronics firm Rakuten as Barça’s primary shirt sponsor from the 2022/23 season.

Radio Catalunya report that talks are ongoing over a deal, which could be worth between €60m and €65m per year.

Rakuten have already opted not to extend their sponsorship agreements with Barcelona beyond their current contract, which expires on June 30.

Talks between Barcelona and Spotify regarding partnerships and sponsorships opened back in October when Daniel Ek, the streaming service’s co-founder, failed in his bid to buy Arsenal from Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.

Barcelona recognise that Spotify is a world-renowned brand and have been keen to enter into an arrangement with them.

While Barcelona wanted to secure a 15-year deal for the sale of Camp Nou’s naming rights, Spotify preferred a shorter-term contract.

It’s been reported that Barça could gain 800m new followers on their social channels as a result of this deal.

The club have also discussed deals with Tencent – a Chinese technology and entertainment business – and cryptocurrency companies Vegan and Polkadot, but their most advanced talks are with Spotify .

Other reports in Spain have also suggested that Barcelona want to re-negotiate their contract with kit supplier Nike.

Their current deal with the American sportswear brand expires in 2026, but there is strong interest from adidas and Puma in replacing them as Barça kit manufacturer.
