Ghana Striving To Secure Kobbie Mainoo’s National Team Selection Ahead Of England

Kobbie Mainoo’s impressive performances for Manchester United have caught the attention of national teams, and Ghana is extending an invitation for him to join their squad.

Mainoo, an 18-year-old midfielder, has stood out, showcasing his talent with a remarkable 97th-minute winning goal in a thrilling 4-3 victory Man United against Wolves.

This recognition reflects his rapid emergence as a promising player on the international stage.

Despite Mainoo’s prior representation of England in three youth levels, there’s a growing anticipation that he could secure a place in Gareth Southgate‘s considerations for Euro 2024.

Born and raised in Stockport, Greater Manchester, Mainoo’s familial roots in Ghana have become a focal point.

The Black Stars have vocally expressed their keen interest in having the midfielder choose to represent Ghana over the Three Lions, adding an intriguing layer to Mainoo’s international football trajectory.

Randy Abbey Ghana FA, said:

“The Ghana Football Association is interested in monitoring, attracting, and persuading all eligible talents for its various national teams.

“Kobbie is definitely one of these incredible talents, and the association would love to work with him and many like him at home and abroad.”

Ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Ghana sought to recruit various players with dual nationality, calling the likes of Tariq Lamptey and Inaki Williams up for the tournament.
