Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes reveals his sides “gave it away” as Chelsea pulled off a remarkable 4-3 win last night, after trailing with 99 minutes played.

Fernandes said:
“We had the game in our hands in the last few minutes and we gave it away.”
“Obviously, it’s frustrating, it’s difficult to take.
“I think we had good control of the game in the last few minutes, we could keep the ball higher up, got some fouls, some throw-ins. But they got two chances at the end and scored two goals.”
Fernandes felt his side should have been far more responsive to Chelsea’s late corner – which resulted in Palmer’s winning goal – especially as it was so late on.
“From the corner we have to be much quicker and much more aware.”
“We talked about that before the game, that they take corners and throw-ins very quick.
We should be aware of that and be much quicker.

“We can say yes [it was a lack of concentration], because as I said we are aware they take goal kicks, throw-ins, fouls and corners very quickly.
We know their players have the quality to play through – and they did.
“They got a little bit lucky with the goal, but in the end, you have to get that luck.”
No team has faced more shots – 225 – in the Premier League in 2024 than United, which has prompted criticism of Ten Hag and the team’s defence.
They conceded 31 shots in a dramatic 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday, while facing another 28 against Chelsea in Thursday’s defeat.
He continues
“In the last two games we have conceded too many shots.”
“But I think in the last game, everybody was talking about how we conceded a lot of shots but I didn’t think they had many good shots on target.
Even [against Chelsea] we got some good blocks.
“It’s about defending your box for your lives like the last goal. Scott [McTominay] tried to but unluckily the ball bounced off him and goes in.”
