France’s Unbeatable Streak Snapped As Antoine Griezmann’s Record Run Comes To An End

Antoine Griezmann’s absence from France’s international matches this break is due to his ongoing ankle problem, ending his world record run of 84 straight games for his country.

Griezmann returned to action last Wednesday, playing 105 minutes against Inter Milan, but was only fit enough for 45 minutes against Barcelona on Sunday night.

After joining up with Les Bleus, it was decided that he would be better off recovering at home rather than forcing the issue for France’s friendlies with Germany and Chile, as per MD.

Following his withdrawal from the 23-man squad, the 32-year-old Atlético Madrid player and France’s fourth-highest scorer with 44 goals in 127 appearances, will be replaced by midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

France host Germany at Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Saturday, followed by Chile at Stade Velodrome on March 26.
