Victor Osimhen Clinches 2023 CAF Player of the Year Award for Stellar Performances with Country and Club.

The Napoli striker outshone Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah to secure the victory.

Osimhen win the prestigious award by propelling his club to their first Serie A title in more than thirty years.

This honor marked an exceptional year for the commanding forward, who also propelled Nigeria to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations by scoring an impressive 10 goals,

securing his position as the top scorer in the qualifiers.

Playing in Italy, the striker amassed 27 goals across various competitions, illuminating the realm of Italian football with Napoli.

His achievement solidified his status as the first Napoli player since Diego Maradona in 1987/88 to top the goal-scoring charts in Italian football.

At 24, Osimhen made history as the first Nigerian recipient of the men’s award since Kanu Nwankwo in 1999, capping off yet another prolific season.

Osimhen’s ninth position in the 2023 Ballon d’Or standings underscored his impact on the Serie A team’s historic performance.

He secured the highest ranking for an African player in that year and holds the record for the highest-ever ranking achieved by a Nigerian in the history of the award.

Earlier this month, the Nigerian striker received the prestigious Italian Footballers’ Association Player of the Year award,

marking the first time an African player has secured this honor from the AIC.
