De Gea, a free agent post his Old Trafford departure, has reportedly reached out to offer his services to the Toon Army.

Ramsdale, currently on the Arsenal bench, is interested in a potential switch to St James’ Park after losing his starting spot to David Raya.

Nevertheless, a January transfer for the English goalkeeper could reach a price tag of £50 million.

Newcastle are reluctant to spend on a goalkeeper – and free agent De Gea presents a more affordable option.

The Spaniard made more than 500 appearances over a 12-year spell at Old Trafford.

His £375,000-a-week contract was not renewed despite winning the Golden Glove

award during the 2022/23 season – and questions linger over his Red Devils replacement Andre Onana.

It is understood 32-year-old De Gea would need to accept significantly reduced wages at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe currently has goalkeepers Martin Dubravka, Lloris Karius and Mark Gillespie at his disposal.
