Arsenal: Gabriel Speaks Out After Being Dropped By Mikel Arteta At The Begining Of The Season

Gabriel Magalhaes

Gabriel Magalhaes spoke openly about his experience of being dropped by Mikel Arteta at Arsenal as the season began.

Despite he played a crucial role in the Gunners’ Premier League title challenge last season,

the Brazilian defender faced uncertainty about his position following the arrival of Jurrien Timber from Ajax during the summer transfer window.

Nonetheless, a discussion with Arteta persuaded him to remain in north London.

The 26-year-old emphasized his understanding of the coach’s decision and highlighted his return to the starting lineup for the 3-1 victory against Manchester United at the start of September.

Since then, the center-back has maintained his position in the team.

The Arsenal manager has contended that his unexpected decision to bench Gabriel has contributed to the Brazilian becoming a ‘much better player.’

However, the defender acknowledges that the experience of being dropped was ‘challenging.’

Gabriel said

‘It was tough, obviously at the start. I wanted to play and it was very difficult for me but I understood what the coach had to do,’

‘It is difficult for any player to not be in the team but now I’m back in I want to keep on working hard to prove my worth.

‘He [Arteta] spoke to me and obviously explained the reasons behind the decision.

Why I should stay, but the most important thing was to remain focused and concentrate.

‘He knew how important I was to the team, so I’m happy to be back and to be able to help the team in every game.

‘I’m happy to be back in the team and hopefully I can help them moving forward.’
