Mikel Arteta:

“We are going to keep him here for another few months and make sure he establishes himself at the club and in the team, and after that we will see what is the best movement in terms of his development.”

“I am very happy with him. He’s adapted really well.

He’s a really likeable figure in the dressing room and around Colney, even if his language is not great yet.

“I think his physicality has been pretty exceptional for someone who has come in from Brazil, a different way to train and the way he’s done it.

“I think he’s got very good qualities for the way we want to play.

“For every player there is the option to play. If he trains and convinces that he has the level to do that, of course he’s going to have opportunities.”

Gabriel Jesus Reveals Mikel Arteta Impacts In Signing For Arsenal

Gabriel Jesus has admitted he is looking forward to working with Mikel Arteta again after signing for Arsenal, while he joins a long list of Gunners recruits in admitting that he adored club legend Thierry Henry as a youngster.

Speaking to Arsenal’s club channels, Jesus revealed that former Manchester City assistant coach Arteta played a key role in selling the project and convincing him to make the move to north London.

Jesus said:

“We spoke a couple of times about the club, the players, the project and the future.

I believe 100 per cent in Mikel. I had a very good time with him before, he’s a very good guy and a very good coach as well.”

“He helped me a lot [at Manchester City]. We would always stick together after the training sessions and do some finishing or something.

He’s a very intelligent guy and was an amazing player, so if he knows something he can teach me or the young players.”

Jesus added that he appreciated Henry as a child and he is relishing the chance to play for another ‘big club’.

“I followed Arsenal when I was young because of Henry.

Obviously I didn’t follow too many European teams but when I saw some of the players that played here, I was like ‘wow, this club is big’.

When I played against Arsenal I was looking at the Emirates and it was a very good stadium, so I’m very excited to play here.”

“I’m so happy to sign for this big club. Since day one when I knew I could come to play for Arsenal, I was happy.

I know the staff, I know some players, the Brazilian ones.

I know there are a lot of top players. They are young and I’m still young as well, so I am so happy to be here to help.

I come to help, to learn as well and to try to do my best.”

During his unveiling on social media, Jesus added:

“Football, to me, is art. I want to play somewhere where I can express myself with a team that want to play the beautiful game, embracing the spirit of Brazilian football.

“I want to make people happy, and that’s why I’m here. Let’s make some memories.”

Aaron Ramsdale Reveals He Would Take On Arsenal Captaincy

Aaron Ramsdale has revealed he would take on the Arsenal captaincy if asked but admitted any such decision is down to manager Mikel Arteta.

The former Bournemouth and Sheffield United goalkeeper has impressed since his summer move to the Emirates,

helping the Gunners into a position of strength in the Champions League qualification race with a string of top performances.

The long-term captaincy at Arsenal is up in the air.

Previous skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left for Barcelona in January and Alexandre Lacazette has since taken on the role.

However, the French striker’s contract expires in the summer and there is no guarantee he will stay in north London next season.

Ramsdale is part of a young core impressing at Arsenal and says he would not turn down the opportunity to captain the Gunners if Arteta asked him.

“Listen, I’d take the responsibility but that’s down to the manager.”

“We’ve got a lot of strong characters, though, and a lot of people who I think would be good captains.

“Just to be told ‘you’re in a leadership role’ – I’d relish whatever.

You never turn down a captaincy and I think I’d excel if I was given the armband, but that’s down to the boss.”

Ramsdale has recorded 12 Premier League clean sheets so far this season,

with only Brazilian stoppers Alisson and Ederson – both on 16 – bettering that tally.

Arsenal are currently fourth in England’s top flight, three points ahead of Tottenham with a game in hand on their north London rivals.

Bringing a lengthy saga to an end. A few weeks prior to his exit,

Aubameyang said:

“[It was] a difficult few months. I’ve never wanted to do anything wrong, it’s in the past.”

“Yeah, I think it was just with him. I can’t say much, he wasn’t happy, I stayed calm and that’s it.”

Aubameyang did enjoy plenty of success during the early portion of his Arsenal career.

Barcelona will be hoping he can replicate that form for the rest of the campaign,

though Aubameyang did point out that he may need some time to get back up to speed.

“I haven’t played a game in a long time but it’s very clear in my head that I’ll be ready soon to play and to help.

I know we’re going to get back to the top little by little.”

AFCON 2021: Concerning Health Issues Aubameyang Will Be Sent Back To Arsenal

Gabon manager Patrice Neveu has confirmed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be sent back to Arsenal for further checks on the heart issue which has prevented him from featuring at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Aubameyang is in Cameroon with the rest of the Gabon squad but has not played after a check-up in the wake of his recovery from Covid-19 revealed he was suffering from ‘heart problems’.

The Athletic revealed on Monday that Gabon were considering sending Aubameyang back to Arsenal for more in-depth health tests.

Meanwhile, Neveu has now confirmed to Goal that both the striker and midfielder Mario Lemina will be sent home.

“Since yesterday, the decision was taken to send them home to their club.”

“We can’t judge it here [in Cameroon], we can’t assess the pathology of Covid here.”

“It’s important that Mario returns to Nice and Pierre returns to Arsenal.”

“And It’s a decision that we’ve taken among ourselves.”

Aubameyang tested positive for the virus after landing in Cameroon but, after missing Gabon’s opening game, recorded a negative test and returned to team training on Thursday.

He was scheduled to play in Friday’s 1-1 draw with Ghana, only for a fresh health check-up to rule him out.

Further tests were carried out on Sunday in the hope of this being a one-off occurrence,

but the same heart problem was detected once again and the decision has been made to send Aubameyang back to London.

Getting to the bottom of this issue is clearly the most important thing right now,

but Aubameyang also faces an uncertain future at club level after he was frozen out of Arsenal’s squad in the build-up to AFCON.

Repeated disciplinary breaches saw Aubameyang stripped of the captaincy by manager Mikel Arteta,

who left him out of team training and was expected to make a decision about his future at the Emirates upon his return.
