Bukayo Saka’s strikes again as Arsenal extended their winning run in the Europa League Group A with a 1-0 triumph at Bodo/Glimt.

The Gunners now have nine points and just need one more victory to seal their place in the next round of the competition.

Mikel Arteta named a relatively strong side for the trip to Norway, with Saka, Martin Odegaard, Ben White and William Saliba all included in the starting line-up.

Bodo/Glimt – who famously thrashed Jose Mourinho’s Roma 6-1 last season –

were searching for a remarkable 15th consecutive home victory in Europe – made a bright start but found themselves behind following a tidy Arsenal team move.

After playing an exchange with Albert Sambi Lokonga, Saka gave the visitors a 24th-minute lead with a deflected effort.

But the hosts should have equalised just minutes later when the club’s top goalscorer Amahl Pellegrino was played through on goal but contrived to get his angles badly wrong as he shot wide.

The Norwegian side grew in confidence after the restart and should have been level when Runar Espejord blasted over from inside the box, while Ola Solbakken went close from further out.

Arsenal, like they have done so often this season, managed to grind out victory, even if it wasn’t pretty at times.

The Gunners lead Group A with three wins from three and will progress if they can defeat PSV next Thursday.

Arsenal XI vs Bodo/Glimt: Team News, Injury Latest Possible Lineup

Arsenal will play Bodo/Glimt with the absent of their main striker Gabriel Jesus as the Brazilian not among the squad that travel to Norway.

Arteta:

“We thought that with everything he has been through in the last few weeks we thought it was better that he was staying there.”

Arsenal will also be without Oleksandr Zinchenko, which will give Kieran Tierney chances  to start at left-back, having been left out of the XI against Liverpool in favour of Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Arteta is expected to heavily rotate his side, as he has done throughout the Europa League group stage so far, as the Gunners look to cement their position at the top

That should mean opportunities for the likes of Matt Turner in goal, Rob Holding, Cedric Soares, Marquinhos and Eddie Nketiah.

Predicted Arsenal XI (4-3-3):

Turner;

Cedric, Holding, Gabriel, Tierney;

Vieira, Lokonga, Odegaard;

Marquinhos, Nketiah, Martinelli

Bodo/Glimt Manager Regards Two Arsenal Players ‘Simply World-Class’ After Their Clash

Bodo/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen reversed his world that claimed he knows and to beat Arsenal and was full of praise for Gunnar’s after his side’s Europa League defeat.

Arsenal continued their impressive run with a routine 3-0 win over Norwegian side Bodo/Glim on Thursday night.

The Gunners were 2-0 up midway through the first half as Eddie Nketiah, starting in place of the rested Gabriel Jesus, broke the deadlock and Rob Holding scored a rare goal from Fabio Vieira’s cross.

£34m summer signing Vieira rounded off another productive evening for Arsenal when he added a third late on.

Arteta’s side have now won four successive matches in all competitions and top their Europa League group, as well as leading the Premier League.

Bodo/Glimt boss Knutsen revealed his admiration for Arsenal in his post-match press conference and hailed second-half substitutes Jesus and Martin Odegaard as ‘simply world-class’.

He said:

‘During the break we talked about how we were a bit passive.’

‘We stopped the ball and did not take advantage of the spaces we had.

‘In the second half we looked a lot more like we should.

But they are not kind to us when they put on Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard.

‘Then we meet quality. It’s world class, quite simply.

‘They attack with a lot of people, they’re patient and then suddenly they have that burst in the final third.

If you only defend, you don’t stand a chance against them.’

Arteta, meanwhile, was pleased to see his side extend their winning run to four games but insisted there was room for improvement as Arsenal prepare to face Liverpool this weekend.

Arteta:

‘We made a lot of changes and gave opportunities to players who deserve to play..’

‘I’m really happy with the result, scoring three and a clean sheet – but I’m very conscious we can do much better.

‘We had spells that we were too rushed and we didn’t manage the ball and it became an open game.

We were really effective in the final third but the composure was lacking a little bit.’

Arsenal moved top of Europa League Group A with a straightforward 3-0 win against Bodo/Glimt at the Emirates.

After an emphatic north London derby victory at the weekend, Mikel Arteta’s side came into this game full of confidence.

As expected, though, Arteta made wholesale changes to the side which beat Tottenham, keeping one eye on Arsenal’s big game against Liverpool on Sunday.

Matt Turner swapped in for Aaron Ramsdale in goal, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Rob Holding and Kieran Tierney came in for Ben White, William Saliba and Oleksandr Zinchenko in defence,

while Fabio Vieira and Albert Sambi Lokonga replaced Martin Odegaard and Thomas Partey in midfield.

In attack, Marquinhos and Eddie Nketiah got the nod while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus dropped to the bench.

Even with their alternative line-up, it didn’t take long for Arsenal to find their rhythm.

Vieira and Nketiah had chances to score early on before, with nine minutes on the clock,

the former glanced the crossbar with a rising shot following a clever flick-on from the latter.

Bodo/Glimt tried to drop deep and frustrate their hosts, falling back into a 4-5-1 without the ball in an effort to close off the space in midfield.

Kjetil Knutsen Bodo/Glimt Boss Explains How To Beat Arsenal

Bodo/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen admits he knows how to beat Arsenal with Mikel Arteta’s tactics “not very complicated”.

The Norwegian outfit are looking to become just the second team to beat the Gunners this season, with Arsenal coming into the game off a huge morale-boosting victory over rivals Tottenham.

Knutsen watched both the north London derby and Arsenal’s win over FC Zurich last month, and feels both teams failed to do the basics required to beat Arteta’s side.

He said:

“I started watching Arsenal against Zurich to analyse Zurich.

But my concentration and my gaze went towards Arsenal because I was thinking, ‘What the hell are they actually doing?!’

It’s just extremely high-level, high-intensity football with extremely high-level individual qualities.

But when you get to see it over time, it’s not very complicated.”

“The way we defend, it doesn’t matter too much [which opposition] players run where because we are very zone-orientated in the way we defend.

If we played a man-to-man system we would have a huge challenge to face, but we are at the other end of the scale [in terms of approach] so that’s probably the least of my worries.

“They attack with a lot of people, they’re patient and then suddenly they have that burst in the final third.

But they also leave space in behind them which we will have to exploit.

“We need to be aggressive in the low block, high intensity in the high press.

And we will have to control the ball. Tottenham only defended, Zurich only defended – if you do that you won’t stand a chance against them.”

Arsenal XI Vs Bodo/Glimt: Team News, Injury Latest, Possible Lineup,

Mikel Arteta is tonight expected to make changes for Arsenal’s Europa League clash with Bodo/Glimt.

The Gunners played Tottenham last Saturday and they will take on Liverpool on Sunday at Emirates Stadium too.

This game against Bodo/Glimt is sandwiched in between those two games and, as a result, Arteta is likely to make changes.

Granit Xhaka could be the only player to keep his place from Saturday’s win over Spurs, with Reiss Nelson one of those who could come in to make his first start of the season.

Arteta:

“Well obviously after the spell that he (Nelson) had last year on loan, we wanted him back to see if there is any changes, there is a prospect that we can really take to the next level.”

“I think the potential is there, we always hang in there because we see something in Reiss that is special.

“Obviously he is part of our academy system.

Now he is going to have an opportunity. He has been out for almost three months with an injury.

He’s back now. He’s fully fit and he is ready to play, he just needs minutes.”

Arsenal squad :

Hein, Ramsdale, Turner;

Cedric, Gabriel, Holding, Saliba, Tierney, Tomiyasu, White, Zinchenko;

Lokonga, Odegaard, Partey, Saka, Vieira, Xhaka;

Jesus, Martinelli, Marquinhos, Nelson and Nketiah.

Mourinho Suffers Biggest Defeat Of His Managerial Career As Bodo/Glimt Thrash Roma By 6-1

The Portuguese endured one of the heaviest defeats of his managerial career – and certainly the most surprising – as his Roma side were thrashed 6-1 by Bodo/Glimt in the Europa Conference League.

Jose Mourinho side trailed just 2-1 at the break.

After the Norwegian champions struck through Erik Botheim and Patrick Berg’s curler, while Carles Perez replied with a clinical effort.

Mourinho made three changes at the start of the second half and another two on the hour mark.

After Bodo/Glimt added a third with Botheim tapping in from close range.

But there was more misery for Mourinho and Roma as Ola Solbakken’s fine solo goal made it 4-1 before Amahl Pellegrino added a fifth and Solbakken claimed his second.

It is the first time a Mourinho side has conceded six or more goals in a single game.

In what was the 1,008th match of his coaching career.

It sits alongside the 5-0 loss his Real Madrid side suffered against Barcelona in 2010 as one of the biggest defeats for Mourinho as a manager.

Mourinho told Sky Sport Italia:

“I decided to play with this line-up, so the responsibility is mine,”

“I did it with good intentions, to give an opportunity to those who work hard and to rotate the squad on a synthetic pitch in cold weather.

“I never disguised the fact we were a squad with real limitations.

We have 13 players who represent one team, the others are on a different level.

“We lost against a team that showed more quality on the night. It’s that simple.”
