Casemiro was excellent and scored first two goals as Manchester United defeat Reading by 3-1.

Substitute Fred added a third a minute after Reading had former Liverpool striker Andy Carroll sent off for a second bookable offence.

The Championship side, managed by ex-United midfielder Paul Ince, got one back through Amadou Mbengue.

Reading almost took a shock lead on the stroke of half-time after Tyrell Malacia made a mistake in his own penalty area but was bailed out by team-mate David De Gea who saved Junior Hoilett’s effort.

Reading’s night went from bad to worse when Carroll was shown two yellow cards in five minutes before Fred added a third with a clever flick from Bruno Fernandes’ cross.

Manchester City edged past Arsenal into the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite making six changes, Mikel Arteta’s side created the better opportunities in the opening half, with Leandro Trossard – making his full debut – causing quite a stirdown the left flank.

He set the tempo as the early as the ninth minute when he pulled a dangerous cross back to Takehiro Tomiyasu, who forced a save from Stefan Ortega.

The Belgian tested the reactions of City’s deputy goalkeeper before setting up Eddie Nketiah whose first-time near-post finish was wide of target.

City made a slow start to proceedings by their standards but could have gone ahead when Kevin De Bryune’s curler drifted agonisingly wide.

The breakthrough didn’t come until the 64th-minute when Ake’s side-footed effort

from an angle found the far corner after Jack Grealish kept an attack alive following Julian Alvarez‘s shot against the post.

Manchester City XI vs Arsenal: Team News Possible Lineup

Pep Guardiola has confirmed Phil Foden is nearing a return to action ahead of Manchester City’s blockbuster FA Cup clash against Arsenal on Friday night.

Foden was an unused substitute against Tottenham and then missed out completely on the City squad for the win over Wolves,

with Guardiola revealing the 22-year-old picked up a knock in the Manchester derby two weeks ago.

However, at his press conference on Thursday, the City boss gave an update that suggested Foden could be involved against the Gunners at the Etihad.

“It is getting better, we have training this afternoon.”

There are otherwise no injury concerns for City and, with more than a week until they face Tottenham in their next Premier League match, it’s likely to be a strong lineup put out even if there are a few changes.

Stefan Ortega should start in goal, as he did in the third round against Chelsea,

though Sergio Gomez may not get his usual cup start at left-back.

Joao Cancelo has fallen down the pecking order in recent weeks and will hope to get his chance here.

Bernardo Silva should also come into the side and Ruben Dias is in contention for his first City start since November,

but Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland could be given a rest and brought on in the second half if needed. Julian Alvarez looks set to lead the line.

Manchester City Possible Lineup (4-3-3):

Walker, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo;

Rodri, Gundogan, Silva;

Mahrez, Alvarez, Grealish.

Arsenal new signing Jakub Kiwior could make his debut as the centre back joined from Spezia for an initial fee of £17.

Mikel Arteta is likely to make changes to his team for the clash with City and Leandro Trossard could make his full debut.

“I see a player (Trossard) that is willing to make things happen and who is really composed, especially in the final third.”

Liverpool beat Wolves 1-0 and secured their passage into the FA Cup fourth round thanks to a Harvey Elliott wonderstrike.

The Reds pressed Wolves well in the opening exchanges, forcing the hosts into giving the ball away on numerous occasions near their own penalty area.

After 13 minutes Liverpool had the lead, a Wolves counter-attack broke down and

Thiago found Harvey Elliott who drove forward into the final third before unleashing a fantastic strike from distance.

Elliott’s goal was the only moment of real quality in what was an otherwise lacklustre first half.

Liverpool secured the win to stop their recent run of poor form and a trip to Brighton awaits them in the fourth round.

Liverpool XI vs Wolves: Latest Team News Possible Lineup

Liverpool take on Wolves in an FA Cup third-round replay at Molineux on Tuesday as the first meeting ended in 2-2 draw.

Liverpool boss Klopp plans to start Cody Gakpo and Salah up front together.

A fourth-round match against Brighton is the prize for the victor but Saturday’s trip to the South Coast was little fun for Klopp’s side, who are desperately searching for improvements.

At the Amex, Thiago Alcantara featured behind Salah and Gakpo in the latest change from the Reds’ typically-favoured 4-3-3 system.

James Milner and Stefan Bajcetic are back in training but Virgil van Dijk, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, Arthur Melo and Luis Diaz remain absent.

Fabio Carvalho could return to the line-up after Klopp insisted he had no personal issues with the winger, who has not played a minute since the restart.

Arsenal second half energy were enough to thrash Oxford at home by 3-0 as Arteta sides move to next round of FA Cup.

Mohamed Elneny and Eddie Nketiah goals were enough for Arsenal to advance.

Saka was denied the opener with a clearance off the line early into the second half.

Fabio Vieira ran onto a long ball over the top of the Oxford defence and flicked the ball cheekily back to the England international,

who cut inside and beat Edward McGinty with his low shot, but saw his effort turned behind for a corner.

Arsenal finally broke the deadlock through Elneny who powered home a pinpoint Vieira free kick in the 63rd minute.

Seven minutes later, Arsenal had a second as Nketiah continued his impressive goalscoring form.

Vieira played an inch-perfect through ball to the forward, who took the ball around McGinty and slotted it home into an empty net.

Nketiah delicately dinked the ball over McGinty six minutes later for his second and Arsenal’s third, as Mikel Arteta’s side booked their place in the fourth round.

Manchester City reach the fourth round of the FA Cup with a thumping 4-0 victory over Chelsea at Etihad Stadium.

The visiting players warmed up in No. 9 shirts in tribute to the late, great Gianluca Vialli ahead of kick off but could not muster a performance to match the gesture.

Pep Guardiola’s home team dominated from the off and deservedly took the lead on 23 minutes when Mahrez curled home a majestic 25-yard free kick.

Julian Alvarez then made it two from the penalty spot on the half hour mark after VAR had intervened to alert the referee to a handball by Kai Havertz.

Chelsea’s shoulders clearly slumped after that and City all-but wrapped up victory eight minutes later when Phil Foden finished off a lovely, well-worked move.

Graham Potter brought on new signing David Datro Fofana for his debut at the break

and tinkered with his system but it did little to change the flow of the game as the hosts continued to dictate the tempo despite easing back into ‘game-management’ mode.

The Citizens then put the icing on the cake five minutes from time when Mahrez netted his second goal of the game from the spot to set up a fourth round tie at home to Oxford or Arsenal.

Next up, City visit Southampton in the EFL Cup on Wednesday before taking on neighbours

Man United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday. Chelsea have a trip to Fulham in the league on Thursday
