Aaron Ramsdale Gets Arsenal New Shirt Number As Bernd Leno Leaves For Fulham

Arsenal first choice Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale will wear the No1 shirt,  the goalkeeper was given a new squad number ahead of the Premier League season getting underway.

Bernd Leno previously had the number, despite being back-up to Ramsdale, but with the German’s move to Fulham now confirmed, that has been freed up.

The Gunners have wasted little time in announcing the change, with Ramsale moving from his previous number 32.

The 24-year-old will be the seventh Arsenal goalkeeper to wear the No1 shirt in the Premier League era,

following the likes of David Seaman, Jens Lehmann and Petr Cech.

It’s a reward for a superb first season at the club, in which Ramsdale made 37 appearances

in all competitions after quickly replacing Leno as Mikel Arteta’s preferred goalkeeper.

While he made a brilliant start to life at Arsenal on the pitch, Ramsdale has admitted social media abuse when he first joined the club from Sheffield United did have an impact on him.

Ramsdale said:

“At the very start it was difficult. I had a lot of negativity around the signing, with idiots online saying don’t sign.”

“Not necessarily death threats but threats saying: ‘We know where you live’ and things like that. Trying to scare me.

“Quite quickly I turned all that stuff off. Social media for me is a place to communicate with my friends and with the fans as well, but with limits on who can actually reach me.”

Injury Updates: Bukayo Saka & Aaron Ramsdale

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed Bukayo Saka has returned to first-team training, but Aaron Ramsdale has not and is a doubt to face Crystal Palace.

The Gunners travel to Selhurst Park on Monday night as they continue their search for a top-four finish,

but could head into the game having dropped to fifth place if rivals Tottenham beat Newcastle by two or more goals on Sunday.

Prior to the international break, starting goalkeeper Ramsdale picked up a hip injury, while star winger Saka tested positive for Covid-19 after joining up with the England squad.

Arteta was quizzed on the duo’s availability ahead of Monday’s crunch clash.

Arteta:

“Bukayo is feeling good. He’s training today hopefully and Aaron it’s a doubt.”

“[Ramsdale] hasn’t trained yet so we don’t know what he’ll be able to do on Monday.

He wanted to play against Aston Villa [before the international break] but it was a significant injury and he had to take his time and the physios are doing everything they can.”

Meanwhile, Palace boss Patrick Vieira has revealed Wilfried Zaha and Michael Olise could both be fit to face Arsenal despite picking up injuries while on international duty.

Zaha was ruled out of Ivory Coast’s friendly with England with a hamstring problem,

while Olise returned from France Under-21 duty with a foot injury.

Aaron Ramsdale Reveals He Would Take On Arsenal Captaincy

Aaron Ramsdale has revealed he would take on the Arsenal captaincy if asked but admitted any such decision is down to manager Mikel Arteta.

The former Bournemouth and Sheffield United goalkeeper has impressed since his summer move to the Emirates,

helping the Gunners into a position of strength in the Champions League qualification race with a string of top performances.

The long-term captaincy at Arsenal is up in the air.

Previous skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left for Barcelona in January and Alexandre Lacazette has since taken on the role.

However, the French striker’s contract expires in the summer and there is no guarantee he will stay in north London next season.

Ramsdale is part of a young core impressing at Arsenal and says he would not turn down the opportunity to captain the Gunners if Arteta asked him.

Ramsdale:

“Listen, I’d take the responsibility but that’s down to the manager.”

“We’ve got a lot of strong characters, though, and a lot of people who I think would be good captains.

“Just to be told ‘you’re in a leadership role’ – I’d relish whatever.

You never turn down a captaincy and I think I’d excel if I was given the armband, but that’s down to the boss.”

Ramsdale has recorded 12 Premier League clean sheets so far this season,

with only Brazilian stoppers Alisson and Ederson – both on 16 – bettering that tally.

Arsenal are currently fourth in England’s top flight, three points ahead of Tottenham with a game in hand on their north London rivals.

Matt Turner Believes He Can Challenge Aaron Ramsdale For Arsenal Number One Shirt

Matt Turner is adamant he will not just be making up the numbers when he joins up with Arsenal ahead of next season.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper will make the move from New England Revolution in the summer.

After a deal was reached with the MLS side worth around £5million, which could rise with add-ons and also includes a 10 per cent sell-on fee.

With Bernd Leno expected to leave the Gunners at the end of the season.

Turner will likely find himself as back-up to Aaron Ramsdale who has been one of Arsenal’s best players this campaign.

However, Turner is not planning on just settling for a place on the bench and the occasional cup appearance.

Turner said:

When I got my first chance with the national team, it was only as a No. 3.”

“No one ever really took me seriously, so I’m not going over there just to collect a cheque and ride off into the sunset.

“I’m going to push myself, I’m going to push Aaron and continue to help him get better and help myself get better.

Matt Turner has become his national side’s starting goalkeeper, getting the nod more and more ahead of Man City stopper Zack Steffen.

When the time comes in the summer, Turner reveals it will be a dream to challenge himself in north London, even if he first became aware of Arsenal in slightly unusual circumstances.

Matt continued:

“Both of my older sisters, they played for a club called the Pascack Arsenal.”

“And when I was getting into soccer after the 2010 World Cup, when I’m on FIFA, I’m looking at the first team in the Premier League is Arsenal, and I said, ‘Oh, that kind of makes sense.”’

“You dream. You don’t really see a clear path of how it’s going to happen.”

“But you just trust the work and trust your dream every single day, and continue to work hard, be self-aware, know what you need to work on, and listen to your coaches around you.”

“I understand that it’s really challenging to get your foot in the door.”

“So it’s really hard to say no to not only the chance to go fulfil a dream,

but also to go challenge myself at the highest level and play for one of the biggest, most recognisable brands in the world in Arsenal.”

Mikel Arteta Backed Aubameyang To Back To His Best As Fans Are Back To The Stadium

Arsenal Coach was excited watching his side beat West Brom 6-0 in the Carabao Cup to reach 3 round.

Mikel Arteta has confidence  in his Captain to get back to his best since fans are now back inside stadiums.

The Arsenal captain scored his first goals of the season on Wednesday night,

as he bagged a hat-trick in Arsenal’s thumping 6-0 win at West Brom in the Carabao Cup second round.

and Arteta believes having supporters back inside grounds could be just what,

When asked if having fans back inside stadiums could make a difference to Aubameyang and bring the best out of him, the Arsenal boss said: “I hope they do.

“Obviously he is a really happy character and he needs that connection with people;

with family, with friends, with fans. You could see the interaction when he left the pitch and I think that is something really positive for him, yes.”

The Arsenal boss believes the morale-boosting win at The Hawthorns could be the,

perfect tonic for his players after back to back defeats in the Premier League.

Nicolas Pepe, Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette were also on target in the 6-0 success,

which saw Aaron Ramsdale make his debut in goal and Martin Odegaard impress on his first start since returning from Real Madrid on a permanent basis.

“When you lose a game, as quick as possible you have to win,” said Arteta.

Overall I think a really positive night.”

Arsenal Edged To seal £30m Ramsdale Transfer

The Blades goalkeeper is arsenal target as a backup for Bernd Leno.

Arsenal are close to signing Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United in a deal worth up to £30 million ($41m)

The news comes as something of a surprise, with talks initially thought to have broken down between the clubs due to a difference in valuation.

Now, however, it appears Mikel Arteta is set to get his man, with the Gunners originally having started their Premier League season without adequate cover and competition for Bernd Leno.

Details of the transfer

Arsenal are hopeful they can complete the deal for Ramsdale in time to register him for the squad that will face Chelsea on Sunday.

The England goalkeeper has yet to fully agree terms and carry out a medical ahead of signing an expected four-year contract, with an option for an additional year.

The deal itself will see Arsenal pay an initial fee of £24m ($33m) to Sheffield United – who originally wanted £40m ($55m) – with a further £6m ($8m) in add-ons included in the deal.

However, the bonuses will only be triggered if the Gunners qualify for Europe numerous times, with Ramsdale also having to make a significant amount of appearances while on the books at the Emirates.

What was said?

Speaking after Sheffield United’s 4-0 defeat at West Brom on Wednesday night, which saw Ramsdale left out of the team, Blades boss Slavisa Jokanovic confirmed the keeper’s exit is imminent.

“We need to evaluate the situation,” Jokanovic said”We need to check what is best for us now, now that we have lost Aaron.

“Listen, I will repeat one more time, it’s not what I wanted. It is difficult to stop this kind of situation and it’s a huge deal for the club, after being relegated from the Premier League. From my side, he was our best option and we wanted to be working with our best players.”

Are Arsenal doing any other transfer business?

Much like their pursuit of Ramsdale, the Gunners are hoping they can get a deal for Martin Odegaard over the line in time for him to take part in the upcoming Chelsea clash.

Real Madrid are willing to accept a bid in the region of £30m ($41m) for the playmaker, who endeared himself to the Emirates faithful during a bright six-month loan last season.

It is understood that Odegaard has already arrived in London for a medical.

Arteta men are focus on their derby match against Tuchel’s side on Sunday.
